oh bah. [1] gives it away--what is *with* this compulsion to all but post the answer to cryptopix?
But also bah, because (a) it wasn't clear that the red bits in the first picture were highlighting the relevant part, as opposed to being coloring, and (b) contrary to common usage around here, the logo with some letters removed is cluing the *remaining* letters, not the *removed* letters.
I was stuck. So, I read the comments. I was so confused when everyone said [1] gave it away. Because that name reminded me of only one thing: I was trying to figure out how that Cryptopix was gonna give me "Don't Fear the Reaper" ("I see my MaryAnn walking away.....").
I see now. But for me it was just a salty aftertaste.
rikkif, I think Tahnan at least has a point in the "whited out" portion of the puzzle. This one does go opposite the "convention" that is usually present in these puzzles, so it does make the puzzle a little misleading - but not unsolvable.
[8] Yes, it was meant as a salty aftertaste; I find it hard to believe anyone would have figured it out from that comment without already having all, or most, of the puzzle solved.
[5][7]rikkif, I like your puzzles just the way they are.
[15] take a three hour tour around thassos, but come in before the weather starts getting rough.
Got it from [1], and I agree that #4 is a whiner, but he/she does have a point with the whited out portion of the word. If you use the non whited out portion, there is nothing to figure out, except that you have to use those exact letters. And some sort of highlighting of the relevant portion of the creature would have been a plus. But all in all a good puzzle rikkif. I enjoyed it.
[14] Take the complaining with a grain of salt ... It cracks me up how often people complain about the stupidest things ....
* "I'm not a sports fan, therefore this puzzle sucks."
* "I didn't solve it in thirty seconds so it sucks"
* "I didn't finish in the top 10 so it sucks"
* "This is different than ____ so it sucks."
* "I've solved 2000 puzzles on tanga, so if I say it sucks, then it sucks."
* "I can't make a puzzle, but I can complain about them ... this one sucks!"
---
Funny thing is that I agree with most of the criticism on this puzzle, but I've been conditioned to want to immediately disagree with certain people because their complaint/compliment ratio is absurd. Some of these complainers have yet to learn about Copernicus. Maybe we just need to wait until they hit the 5th grade ...
Soooo, good work ... keep thinking out of the box ... the other free spirits around here have your back.
thanks cwarrior, you & hatemachine seem to get it, just because that's the way it always has been done doesn't mean thats the way we should think... I was throwing a curveball, we are all conditioned to think a certain way, do you think murdoctor is formuliac in his puzzles? that fella gets it, he creates some of the most challenging and difficult puzzles and his solve methods are different almost everytime! so thaks to all who gave me a shot in the arm. and I apologize, I was in a bad mood yesterday, and was just po'd.

[5] I liked it, but I have to agree with [4] on the point that [1] gives a little too much salt

Yes rikkif, you must conform and create your puzzles the same way everyone else does so they will be easier. Give me a break.
[4] Gave away more by complaining that [1] gave away the answer.
