    is that a hurdy gurdy?
    edit:
hmmm no I don't think so...

  2. FilePancakesenik on Tue May 01, 2007 07:04 PM

    I think it's a cotton gin

  3. FileAppleTWhitsett on Tue May 01, 2007 07:05 PM

Any idea what that cross thing is supposed to be?

  4. FileBananaahecht on Tue May 01, 2007 07:05 PM

I see a couple of gins, but that doesn't help yet.

  5. FileRadishThosw on Tue May 01, 2007 07:06 PM

    # It took you 1 minute and 2 seconds to solve this puzzle.
    # You were the 2nd Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
    # Average solve time: 45 seconds.
    # Median solve time: 1 minute and 2 seconds.

Took a guess based on the top line, which was the only one I figured out all the way. Some of these are not what you think they are.

    Cute puzzle, by the way.

Edit: Backsolved the bottom line. Not sure of the intent, but I think the top and bottom lines should be reversed.

  6. Tog6Pumpkinprincessproton on Tue May 01, 2007 07:09 PM

Tell me this isn't a drink recipe...

  7. FileRadishThosw on Tue May 01, 2007 07:10 PM

    [6]

    "Can you make a bullshot?"
"Can you make a shoe smell?"

    Edit: Not salt.

  8. FileEggRPardoe on Tue May 01, 2007 07:11 PM

    # You were the 9th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
    # Average solve time: 58 seconds.
    # Median solve time: 45 seconds.

[5] I agree. Answer obvious from the clues, but not technically correct as written.

  9. FileBananaahecht on Tue May 01, 2007 07:12 PM

    * It took you 6 minutes and 36 seconds to solve this puzzle.
    * You were the 14th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.
    * Average solve time: 2 minutes and 21 seconds.
    * Median solve time: 1 minute and 9 seconds.
    * 26.923% of Tanga members that have attempted this puzzle have solved it.

Yup, technically incorrect, but solution is obvious once solved.

    [3] It's a cross thing

  10. FileRaspberrydsmeyer on Tue May 01, 2007 07:12 PM

[5] I just think the two middle pictures should be exchanged. But it still made sense the way it was. Other than that one small change It was a good puzzle.

  11. Avatar_profilePancakesrandomcyn on Tue May 01, 2007 07:13 PM

    Haaaa. Very cute puzzle.

  12. Tog6Pumpkinprincessproton on Tue May 01, 2007 07:13 PM

[7] I could really go for a brain hemorrhage right about now. Oh wait, I seem to have that covered.

Edit: Got it. I'm ashamed that I just got home from an entire day of relevant classes and it still took me this long...

  13. Avatar_profilePearmundane on Tue May 01, 2007 07:21 PM

    I'm not getting it.

  14. FileRaspberrydsmeyer on Tue May 01, 2007 07:24 PM

[13] The bottom left image is of an ox. That might help you.

  15. FilePancakesjmcintyre on Tue May 01, 2007 07:26 PM

[14] That did it. Thanks for rescuing me!

  16. FileAppleTWhitsett on Tue May 01, 2007 07:27 PM

[14] Thanks, that did it for me.

  17. FileRadishSpire on Tue May 01, 2007 07:27 PM

Ugh. The puzzle doesn't work unless you exchange the middle two images.

  18. Avatar_profilePearmundane on Tue May 01, 2007 07:28 PM

Just got it. Once I figured out what the Ostrich was doing it was obvious.

  19. PirateleadfootPumpkinleadfoot on Tue May 01, 2007 07:28 PM

"... but solution is obvious once solved."

    Hmm-hmm

    THAT was helpful!

    ---------------------
"Ox" did it for me too! Thanks!

    ---------------------
(Sure does look like a bull though)

    Wow! I just learned that
"An ox is nothing more than a mature bovine with an 'education', "

    Cool
I guess it was one smart bull!

  20. FileAppleDodger on Tue May 01, 2007 07:29 PM

What is that crazy bird doing with his head?

  21. Avatar_profileGarlicrandyzip on Tue May 01, 2007 07:31 PM

After I solved this I couldn't figure out how the last picture fit into the puzzle. I then figured out that I solved it incorrectly. I had the wrong word for the middle right picture. If you change the last picture to the letter "D" and solve incorrectly like I did, the answer actually makes better sense (in my opinion).

  22. FileRadishSpire on Tue May 01, 2007 07:34 PM

In fact, I probably would have ordered it as follows:

    [die] [ostrich] [rower] [cotton gin]
    [cubes]
    [ox] [eye] [bottle of gin]

  24. FileDuckiedavey3 on Tue May 01, 2007 07:57 PM

Ox? OX??? Seems like a lot of bull to me!

No way I would have thought "ox" when I was so sure it was a bull. Thanks for the salt!

  25. Avatar_profileGarlicrandyzip on Tue May 01, 2007 08:02 PM

Checking my high school learnin' I find that I was actually incorrect in my analysis of the puzzle in comment [21] even though it did get me to the correct answer.

  26. FilePlumworkerbee on Tue May 01, 2007 08:10 PM

eh, read it from bottom to top. Somedays, I wonder why I bother getting out of bed... Regardless, I've sent a corrected puzzle to Aaron - hopefully, he'll check his email.

  27. Avatar_profileLemonunderpussy on Tue May 01, 2007 08:22 PM

    # It took you 2 minutes and 39 seconds to solve this puzzle.
    # You were the 88th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

Yeah! Fast and salt free! I almost NEVER get them this fast - I just happen to be enough of a geek to spot the pattern. Actually, I didn't even solve the whole thing (what is that boxy thing anyway?)

  28. SouthparkPepperTahnan on Tue May 01, 2007 08:50 PM

Mmmph. Not a bad concept, but it does become a lot easier to get when you know that that thing isn't a bull. The middle-left image is a little...weird, for what I gather it's supposed to be; and of course, the fact that the whole thing is, you know, upside down doesn't help.

  29. Avatar_profileLemonformsand on Tue May 01, 2007 09:09 PM

what is up with the first line?

  30. Avatar_profilePearhld1970 on Tue May 01, 2007 09:32 PM

First line is three parts that when said together quickly, make up one word.

  31. Img_0025Watermelonjprivera on Tue May 01, 2007 09:45 PM

    ostrich kayac cotton gin
    Cubes Dice
    Ox Eye Gin

    how am I?

    any salt please....

  32. FilePotatoDrParty06 on Tue May 01, 2007 10:02 PM

last line is good, think a little more abstractly for the top and simpler for the middle.

  33. Avatar_profileLemonformsand on Tue May 01, 2007 10:03 PM

i get the last line and probably the middle line but the first line is killin me

  34. FileGarlicHope2002 on Tue May 01, 2007 10:24 PM

It took you 12 seconds to solve this puzzle.
You were the 144th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

I don't think any idea has ever gotten into my head that fast. If I hadn't gone to that Little League game.

  35. AvatarBananaVotey on Wed May 02, 2007 05:38 AM

    > 1 minute and 27 seconds

Woo! Of course, now I have to go buy some Bombay Sapphire. Thanks a lot, Tanga.

  36. FilePearBigRob68 on Wed May 02, 2007 06:04 AM

    woo hoo! two puzzles in a row!... took me a while though;

It took you 50 minutes and 29 seconds to solve this puzzle.
You were the 213th Tanga member to solve this puzzle.

edit: some misleading salt @ bgg

  37. Avatar_profileKiwiTheDowman on Wed May 02, 2007 06:15 AM

    Middle row salt:

Don't think so much about what the pictures are of as much as what they're showing you.

  38. FilePlumsjlee on Wed May 02, 2007 09:12 AM

I got the solution after reading the salt here. The trick is figuring out what the pictures are showing you. In some cases, the clue is not literally what is pictured, but rather the idea behind it.

Here's some salt... all the clues are one syllable.

  39. FileRocketXeonrf on Wed May 02, 2007 09:55 AM

Om my, I finally got it, no idea why it took me so long but I was stuck on the middle and top rows. It so much make sense to me now.

  40. FilePepperdajagr on Wed May 02, 2007 09:11 PM

Okay, I've looked at the solution to this one now. Since when is the answer the first thing plus two of the second thing?

  41. FilePotatoDandelion_Wine on Thu May 03, 2007 11:30 AM

[40] i just checked too. It should be the other way around, which I think [26] stated. Ah well.

  42. FileOnionPatanga on Fri Nov 04, 2011 06:57 PM

    I loved this puzzle.....4 1/2 years later.
