If you google the author's name (top right of book) and the partial title, you'll get the missing part. Then google just the four-letter name of the object in the bottom right and you should see the answer.
to be fair, this is not exactly "out of the blue" for anyone who has been paying any attention to current events. I would place this very squarely in "General knowledge", rather than some puzzles which require detailed knowledge of specific areas.
As someone who only watched swimming and gymnastics of the recent sports event I must say the answer to this cryptopix was someone I had never even heard of.
