Assumes a fixed do. Of course I learned the system with a movable do, as i think is fairly common in the US

Yea, was about to comment on movable "do" as well, but since C is a pretty commonly known key signature. Although the u through me for a while and then I remembered HS Science...

well, it is on a piano keyboard, which does have a pretty stong key preference.

[6] see all those black keys? those make any key "preference" moot. The point is the puzzlemaker used a fixed do, which is fine. I just learned with a movable do, meanign there was a piece missing in the puzzle.

[9] Maybe so, but I have no knowledge of piano layouts or movable or stationary do's and I was able to solve the puzzle with just the first two clues :p
