How do you get that many beats in the piano measure? (Just a sample question ... you could ask a few more like this.)

    Nice puzzle!

  3. FractalEggdduensing on Tue Nov 11, 2008 07:13 PM

Ugh!. Too bad there wasn't any time for me to write my signature. It certainly doesn't work if you rate it 6/8.

  4. FilePepperdajagr on Tue Nov 11, 2008 07:16 PM

[3] Nor does it work if you try to cut the time it takes.

  5. 1981709Sailboatjgf on Tue Nov 11, 2008 07:33 PM

I think, depending the notation convention used, it needs to be in 4/4 time to be read properly.

I can always count on Tanga to give me a neat puzzle! Nice!

    [1] I think that's a big clue!

  8. Phi3CornPhilana on Tue Nov 11, 2008 07:27 PM

    Different, and well done.

DO a deer a female deer....

Interesting to be reminded of that system of nomenclature...

  12. FileBananaCardzmaster2004 on Tue Nov 11, 2008 08:43 PM

Yeah, I'd prefer a time signature on this, but it was intuitive enough for me (yayes Common Time!).

  13. AvatarSailboatjjcool on Tue Nov 11, 2008 09:16 PM

    [5] agreed, or common time.

Anyone else read the solution and not have any idea what it was talking about. There are some terms that are unfamiliar to me and my 25 years of reading music. Perhaps they are a regional thing, as judging by the puzzlemakers avatar he/she is down under.

Wow, still only 86 solves? I didn't expect to get any bonus points his late in the evening especially on one that I found fairly easy.

  15. FileSailboatdagibbs on Tue Nov 11, 2008 10:13 PM

And, I don't think you do actually need a time signature. I think the nomenclature is indepedent of the time signature.

(And, in fact, this music isn't in any time signature.)

  16. Panda-flyGarlicpandapal on Tue Nov 11, 2008 10:27 PM

sure glad I know a little bit about music (very little, but enough for this puzzle!)

I guessed her name through trial and error, though there are enough clues to spell it out. She has a sister named Harmony.

  18. FileOnionJohn on Wed Nov 12, 2008 12:11 PM

[17] Thanks for that. Now I don't have to do any bothersome puzzle solving...

  19. Avatar1_edited-2Sailboataurnivi on Wed Nov 12, 2008 01:03 PM

    Enjoyed the puzzle...creative.

  20. FileSailboatdagibbs on Wed Nov 12, 2008 02:35 PM

Talked to my piano instructor... time is relevant, partially. It has to be x/4 time, but the x doesn't matter -- 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, etc -- they all would work.

    I love it!
