Use the words and not the symbols..... Good one!

  2. FileOnionJohn on Sat Feb 28, 2009 07:04 PM

Grrr... don't try to answer it. Just put the question into the form above (including the mark at the end)

  3. Avatar_profileOnionmtnestersoon on Sat Feb 28, 2009 07:04 PM

I have the answer but it won't take. WHat's the secret?

  4. FractalEggdduensing on Sat Feb 28, 2009 07:04 PM

Any punctuation or apostrophe? Got it but it won't take.

  5. FilePepperslog on Sat Feb 28, 2009 07:05 PM

    [4] Same here.

  6. FileSailboatdagibbs on Sat Feb 28, 2009 07:05 PM

    Bloody punctuation and spelling combinations.

One apostrophe, plus the question mark that is clued.

Shouldn't this also be today's One Word Wonder?

  8. Avatar_profileOnionmtnestersoon on Sat Feb 28, 2009 07:07 PM

    terrible spelling

  9. FractalEggdduensing on Sat Feb 28, 2009 07:07 PM

Grrrrrr....the third color, ISN'T spelled like a color.

  10. FilePepperslog on Sat Feb 28, 2009 07:08 PM

    [9] Thanks.

  11. FileSailboatdagibbs on Sat Feb 28, 2009 07:09 PM

[9] It isn't, but then... it isn't meant like a color either.

  12. FileRaspberryBadMagic on Sat Feb 28, 2009 07:10 PM

    Thank you [9]!

  13. FileEggRagspur on Sat Feb 28, 2009 07:10 PM

[9] thanks. I had it in seconds and spent 5 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong.

  14. FractalEggdduensing on Sat Feb 28, 2009 07:11 PM

[11] I disagree....in the classic question, you may be right... but the many, many, alternate answers the third color is definitely used. (but not here)

  15. FractalEggdduensing on Sat Feb 28, 2009 07:11 PM

    Dup comment deleted.

[14] In the classic riddle, the "problem" is the misinterpretation of the homonym, and the puzzle uses the "correct" interpretation.

As you say, there are many alternate answers that take the original and answer it.

[7] I may be wrong, but I recall a previous OWW with the answer.

  18. AvatarDuckiesteph_frolin on Sat Feb 28, 2009 07:53 PM

    A zebra in a blender?

  19. FileEggj15bell on Sat Feb 28, 2009 08:05 PM

    [18] bleh! :)

The reason this puzzle proves confusing is that the classic "joke" is dependent upon it being SPOKEN rather than WRITTEN. The play on words has to do entirely with how the words sound and all is lost when it is written down. So, in addition to the various punctuation options, the spelling of that particular word complicates adds one more variable.

    [7] a sunburned zebra.

A newspaper would be the standard answer; sorry didn't think much of this one. Not because it isn't clever, but because of the fiddly-ness in the spelling and punctuation. Should have targeted the riddle's answer.

pretty sad when there are so many versions to waste time on.

  24. FilePepperpepperhead on Sun Mar 01, 2009 02:42 PM

    what a head ache {Sniffle whine}

    but a good idea

  25. BirdGrapesalittlebirdtoldme on Sat Mar 14, 2009 04:11 PM

Good idea, but frustrating with the spelling.

  26. ShirlRadishshirl60 on Wed Oct 20, 2010 05:27 PM

    Umm...a bleeding nun?
