Ferris Bueller (the movie) is one of the best movies of all time ... not really salt, but this puzzle made me think of it.

The puzzle wasn't hard...but I feel completely out of the loop as I have never heard of this.

[5] I'm with ya - thank goodness for < insert favorite search engine here >.

[6] Search engine search isn't working....I guess this show isn't as famous as some think.

Never heard this phrase. Very difficult to get if you have not. There are many birds in that Genus including snipe, sandpiper, etc.

  9. Phi3CornPhilana on Thu Oct 08, 2009 07:28 PM

[8]Please recheck your references. I can't find a single reference or website that says that either snipes or sandpipers are in the genus Numenius.

  10. FileGarlick1w1 on Thu Oct 08, 2009 07:35 PM

    never heard of it.

  11. FileClockmust67 on Thu Oct 08, 2009 07:36 PM

I thought it looked like a sandpiper so I was off from the start. These birds are in the same FAMILY but not in that GENUS. Google gave me a hit on the family before the hit on the genus.

    thefreedictionary.com [9]

[12]The entry you cite is similar to the one the other person misunderstood. The entry first states the bird that is a member of genus Numenius, which is the information you need for the puzzle. Then it gives as additional information the family of which that genus is a member and mentions other members of that family (but NOT of genus Numenius), including snipes and sandpipers.

Great one! I learned a new word on the bird. And seriously people, it isn't that hard to search the bird one. It isn't confusing at all-- I hit on the word the first time I searched. It was figuring out the syllables in the answer that was the difficult part. But searching for the bird, not a problem.

Does anyone else write out the clues and THEN get it in a flash? That's my sure fire strategy if i get hung up on a crypto.

  18. AvatarBananaVotey on Fri Oct 09, 2009 06:04 AM

  22. FileKiwiDullorb on Fri Oct 09, 2009 01:01 PM

I've heard of it. Never watched it but heard of it. The 'ew' variant spelling delayed me a couple seconds.
