Fun one! I know #1 is a word, but I keep wanting to spell it "gewyep" anyway. Which is also a valid word, more FAMILIAR among non-math geeks, still works with this puzzle, and hopefully is just enough of a salt sprinkle for those still stuck on it.

As for #3, in the words of my favorite Sesame Street character, "I love to Count!"

[16] for #1, wikipedia the words "caesar code" (remembering that you can go backwards as well as forwards)

for #3 you need to skip some, and use some (in a patterned way)

Personally, I didn't get #3 either, but using the other answers and knowing what to do for the second step filled in the blank for me.
