edit: aaahhh, just got it as I was looking through the postal ads...
wow, that was difficult for me, kept look for words that fit the part of the ship that the symbol is coming out of, not a word for the whole ship.
That ended up being more difficult for me than it should have been. Once you can identify the type of ship, however, the pieces fall right into place.

i'm still having trouble D: i assume [5] was major salt but still no aha!
[4] is right, but I hadn't heard of the type of ship before. found a webpage that lists all types of ships and went down it until I found a word that paired up nicely with the other half of the clue.
I remember reading about this type of ship when I had to do a report on China.
I've worked on this off and on and thought it was a euphemism for ... um ... "package". You don't want to know the different things I tried for an answer until I realized that I'm supposed to reverse the words I had. I was barking up the wrong twig and berries....
