Nice! The picture in the background is a big clue.

  10. FileOnionTwench on Mar 01, 2010 07:14 PM

[3] [5] identify the person in the background picture first.

Are there multiple answers to some of them...because if I'm doing the right thing, I'm lost. :p Happily TG someone with my current answers to see if I'm on the right track.

  14. FileBananaDBMechanic on Mar 01, 2010 07:21 PM

Whew! All I gotta say is why's it so hard?

  15. Bp3Eggendel3 on Mar 01, 2010 07:22 PM

    [10], that's not a problem---had that right away....

  16. Ted_doggRaspberrydmlafrance on Mar 01, 2010 07:24 PM

[13] I don't think so - if you're on the right list. You can TG me.

[14] It's not that hard, if you just turn the key!

I agree... very impressive first submission and a nice change of pace.

I was able to solve this off the top of my head. . .younger Tanganoids (say, younger than early 30s) may have to do some research.

    Nice puzzle, BTW!

  23. FileCarrotmmene on Mar 01, 2010 08:23 PM

[22] well I am in my 40's but that isn't helping me much. I suppose I am just not as cool as you are. I am not making any headway at all. I tried identifying the photo too but could not figure that our either.

  24. Avatar_profileBananaDJKuulA on Mar 01, 2010 08:43 PM

If you're frozen on this, that's OK -- it's just human nature.

Stay focused, and your lucky star will shine a ray of light on the answer. . .

    [1] LOL: last sentence.

[14] This is something that Verve actually started when he took over Featuring puzzles, and I think it's a neat idea. Featuring the more... well, let's not say "harder," but rather... shall we say... "complex" puzzles on the Hypercross off nights. It's a neat compromise from a few years ago when we published 2 OWWs a day: one labeled EASY and one labeled HARD.

I'm sorry; on the One Word Wonder difficulty scale of 1-10 this is about a 3. No bizarre leaps of logic or obscure references or extra steps -- just a simple identification and straightforward tangafication.

Note: This is a good thing!

  27. MeKiwipadlocksan on Mar 02, 2010 12:21 AM

I recognized two of the confabulated phrases. From there I figured out who the picture was. Which lead me to google everything I could , because I don't know most of them. Focused study is the only thing that got me to the answer.

  28. Avatar_profileGrapesmightyspork on Mar 02, 2010 01:18 AM

I'm just getting acquainted with this type of puzzle and I think I'm getting close to figuring it out but I'm having trouble getting from 3 words down to 1 word.

  29. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on Mar 02, 2010 01:50 AM

[26] That's why I think the word "complex" fits. Especially for puzzles that are, to use a wonky word, recursive.

  30. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Mar 02, 2010 05:52 AM

[23]If you are still having trouble, think of a word for "Female Royalty" and a short form for "Popular Music". Google that and you should find who the picture is.
[26] I agree - I never intended it to be hard. But it's probably a generational thing.
[28] What did you have to do to the listed phrases to get where you are? Do that again.

Jump or Push would have been fun answers
