I'M NOT ....!
it won't take
Firat time in top 100! Yeah ME!!!!
Jeez, with the spelling!
Gah! tripped up by spelling!
Why is it not taking the answer?
won't take despite spelling changes...
darn, spelling got me. Fun puzzle.
I'm finding the phrase via google, but it's not taking here ... alternate spelling?
Did you use a double letter?
100th!
I had trouble with the spelling. Goggling it gave me an alternate spelling :(
some of the links have it spelled wrong. GRRRRR!
[9] according to the solution text, google gives many listings with the last word misspelled. The spelling that SHOULD be correct IS correct.
spelling meh....
Not a fan of the "controversial spelling" issues ... we can argue about how it should be spelled, how the author spelled his own fictional word, etc., how wrong it is to use google as a spell check (which incidentally doesn't suggest the correct spelling if you type in the wrong one for the key word of this puzzle).
The bottom line is that these issues are just silly, particularly when it comes to made up words as in this case. To be fair I think if a double letter is required in the answer, it should be clued that way. Sure, there can be exceptions in cases where it is going to be blindingly obvious. This happens with other puzzles too (especially the "single picture clues the entire phrase" type of CP).
The goal should be that the solvers get the answer in their head and then enjoy having solved the puzzle. It's really frustrating to make an appt to be here at the moment the puzzle goes live, solve it (in the head) almost immediately ... and not get it until ten minutes of trying various permutations.
I'm not hating on Philana here ... just ranting about an issue that pops up far more often than it should.
Rant mode off.
[15] I'm sorry, but It takes ten seconds, not ten minutes, to try the most obvious alternate spelling!
This appears to be a puzzle that requires an encyclopaedic knowledge of peanuts quotes and I guess I will have to give up on it since I am not as familiar with the quotes as others. Sigh.
Got it right away - except for spelling. Googling gave me the exact thing I entered. I tried mispelling it and google corrected it with what I had already tried. [10] helped me guess where my error was.
{15} , [17} If you slur the first two images together into two different one-syllable words, I think you will find that the Google (or other search engine) suggestions help you find the third (and final) word.
[16] ya, it took me ten seconds to do the most obvious alternate spelling, BUT the solution to this puzzle does NOT use the second most obvious spelling. the answer took me a lot longer to figure out. i can see why ppl have given up.
If we're gonna gripe about something, we should gripe that the puzzles don't accept multiple spellings. If nothing else the author should be able to input multiple possible spellings if they exist, so that all of them can be counted.
[21] Why would we want to have it accept incorrect spellings? I could MAYBE see that in the case of British/American variation (color/colour) or genuine equal alternatives (theater/theatre), but in this case we were looking for a specific phrase used by a specific author. Why should anyone get credit for just getting something similar?
You solved this puzzle in 32 seconds and were the 334th Tanga member to solve it. You earned 10 points for solving this.
"Spelling", must not be that much of an issue, I've only seen this spelled just one way in the actual comic strip!?
Actually I just had to google the correct spelling. I never noticed how the creator of the word spelled it. But now I know and I only took me a minute verses 30 seconds :) lol
Many misspellings Google positively but only the correct one shows on the Peanuts cartoons displayed.
I too hate spelling problems in puzzles when there is no way to determine which is correct but in this case the spelling in the solution is the only correct one.
For the record ... this issue pops up fairly often. Perhaps this puzzle isn't the canonical example of it, but anybody who's been around here for more than a few weeks has been frustrated by the "know the answer but it won't take" syndrome.
I'm guessing the site uses regex's to test if the submitted answer is correct. If so, there's a fairly simple way to set it up to accept alternate spellings, but then you've got to train puzzle makers how to do it. More hassle than its worth. The solution really comes down to making sure everything is fairly clued.
Spelling rrrrrrrrr...........
