You'll find that the issue you raised is really where the charm of these puzzles lies (figuring out the 'rules' of the puzzle which are revealed as you solve it). Some correct paths are more evident, many are devious. Some puzzles have explicit instructions hidden in plain sight, but requiring a new or warped perspective. Some have a structure that leads you down the right (or is it wrong this time?) path. And so on...
