    kibw4fub3

  2. FileClockJewelia on Thu Jun 05, 2008 04:48 PM

The first one is V, not K.

(Which really doesn't help, does it?)

  3. Avatar_profileBananatrevelyan on Thu Jun 05, 2008 04:48 PM

Could be a 2 as well

  4. Avatar_profileBananatrevelyan on Thu Jun 05, 2008 04:49 PM

Last row top could be a 6 also

  5. PumpkinEggCrazyKids on Thu Jun 05, 2008 04:51 PM

I'll have you know the answer is not "bubs dived" - you know, just in case you were ready to try that.

  6. FileClockJewelia on Thu Jun 05, 2008 04:51 PM

If you carefully compare them to the source pix ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Manual_Alphabet ), I think W is correct.

    i have VIBW
    4FUB3

    its gibberish

  8. FileEggRPardoe on Thu Jun 05, 2008 04:54 PM

Nice Aha on this puzzle, especially once I realized I did not need to overcomplicate things and look elsewhere for information.

  10. FileEggRPardoe on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:02 PM

The puzzle is self-contained. Everything you need is there. It is all in how you use the information given.

  11. FileClockJewelia on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:03 PM

So . . . do the 1s at the top indicate we should note the position (up/down) of the 1st (i.e., index) finger in each picture?

  12. Avatar_profileBananatrevelyan on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:07 PM

I have no clue what the 1's indicate or how to interperet the hands.

  13. Avatar_profileBananatrevelyan on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:10 PM

If its self contained then all you can say about the hands are what number of fingers are up or down.

  14. FileClockJewelia on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:08 PM

But it's all there! We must be blind not to see it. ;-(

  15. Avatar_profileBananatrevelyan on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:09 PM

Might help if it were in brail.

  16. FileClockJewelia on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:10 PM

    It's not badcdcbdc . . .

  17. FilePancakesepaz on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:10 PM

...what in the world?? (Just got here; am stumped.)

  18. Avatar_profileBananatrevelyan on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:11 PM

lol i went that route too

  19. FileClockJewelia on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:12 PM

    [17] Welcome. I am a stump, apparently!

  20. PumpkinEggCrazyKids on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:13 PM

    or 1011, 10111 or 11, 23 or KW

  21. FileClockJewelia on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:14 PM

[20] Yeah, those won't working for me, either.

  22. Avatar_profileBananatrevelyan on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:15 PM

Also if self contained why use different representations of the 3 fingers up or 4 fingers up.

  23. New_scout_logoCheeseburgerscoutmom on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:22 PM

Rats! I had hoped that reading through the comments would help me. No such luck!

  24. Anna_image3_1_OnionAbbie on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:23 PM

Some salt would be a help

  25. FilePancakesepaz on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:24 PM

well, i know lots more things it's not!

  26. New_scout_logoCheeseburgerscoutmom on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:30 PM

I'm thinking the fingers, when combined with the 1s at the top, will give us numbers, then convert to letters maybe?

edit: Well that didn't get me very far.

  27. FileClockJewelia on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:30 PM

Although the answer is unknown to me, the answer is not UNKNOWN.

  28. FileClockJewelia on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:33 PM

Some times it pays to spell out what you see in black and white.

  29. New_scout_logoCheeseburgerscoutmom on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:34 PM

The solution is simply a matter of applying Tanga numbers!

  30. Ronald-mcd-3EggKilgore on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:34 PM

It's not HANDSOME, although I want it to be.

I tried taking the first letter of each number spelled out but got nothing...

  31. New_scout_logoCheeseburgerscoutmom on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:35 PM

[30] Try using those numbers in a different way.

  32. FilePancakesepaz on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:39 PM

[28]&[29] OMG! I'd tried that already -and given up- with the singular and with the specific plurals, but not _that_ way. Thanks!

  33. Avatar_profileAppleRavis13 on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:44 PM

    I'm so lost :(

  34. FilePancakesepaz on Thu Jun 05, 2008 05:54 PM

[33] Have you read the help in comments [8], [10], [28], and [29]?

  35. Avatar_profileBananatrevelyan on Thu Jun 05, 2008 06:09 PM

    Spelling isnt helping any

  36. Avatar_profileBananatrevelyan on Thu Jun 05, 2008 06:13 PM

I have used the fingers as numbers as well as the number 1 as numbers....neither is panning our or has panned out.

  37. Avatar_profileBananatrevelyan on Thu Jun 05, 2008 06:21 PM

damn i had that as the key too, but got stuck because i didnt make it plural

  38. SouthparkPepperTahnan on Thu Jun 05, 2008 06:47 PM

Plural? Feh. There were just too many things you could do here, and any puzzle whose answer includes the phrase "a big red herring" is not going to make me happy.

  39. FilePepperdajagr on Sat Jun 07, 2008 10:43 AM

[38] Not only that, but more than one. If you get too many red herrings, or if they're a major part of the puzzle, it really detracts from it, IMHO.

Whomp! This is on July 8, 2009, over a YEAR after the puzzle was posted...

You solved this puzzle in 13 days, 9 hours, and 47 minutes and were the 78th Tanga member to solve it. You earned 3 points for solving this.

78th???? Wow...I didn't realize it was so difficult!

Use the word you get in the black box as the key for the tanga numbers below.

And after tanga-ing, there is a second step to interpret the words found.
