    huh?

  3. FileEggplantPillacd on Jul 05, 2011 07:18 PM

How can I be in the top 20 on the Cryptopix and Hypercross, yet be completely lost here?

nm: p&s. Yes, I'm an idiot.

  4. Nick_dress_blues_2Pancakesbitwisenot on Jul 05, 2011 07:09 PM

    Well it's not "duh"

  5. Christopher_david_ryan_-_eyeGarlickc6201 on Jul 05, 2011 07:10 PM

    [3] Same here.

  6. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jul 05, 2011 07:12 PM

    [3] Same way I am, I suppose. ;)

Obviously, Arnott thought it was easy since he put it on a hyper night. I don't know whether to be pleased that he was wrong or feel stupid because he's right... lol

  7. FileEggplantJohnS43 on Jul 05, 2011 07:13 PM

You solved this puzzle in 3 minutes and 44 seconds and were the 15th Tanga member to solve it.

    When in doubt, Tanga.

  8. FileGarlicMrPlow99 on Jul 05, 2011 07:15 PM

Lost too. Not seeing anything with the usual Tanga-ish substitutions

  9. FileRaspberryMarkel on Jul 05, 2011 07:16 PM

    Think slang

  10. Avatar_profileLemonrad42886 on Jul 05, 2011 07:17 PM

I am completely lost. Hints anyone?

  11. FileEggplantsuigeneris on Jul 05, 2011 07:18 PM

    That's just downright horrible!!!

  12. FileEggplantPillacd on Jul 05, 2011 07:18 PM

[7] has the best hint without giving it away.

  13. Bp3Eggendel3 on Jul 05, 2011 07:22 PM

Obviously it's solvable, just not for me..

    edit----That WAS horrible....[11] agree

  14. Tanga_shadow_goat_2-fpAceshiella on Jul 05, 2011 07:19 PM

    my slang not working

  15. Christopher_david_ryan_-_eyeGarlickc6201 on Jul 05, 2011 07:21 PM

Got it finally. I thought of tanga-ing a while ago but [9] helped me with the middle.

  16. FileGarlicMrPlow99 on Jul 05, 2011 07:21 PM

    [9] Thanks.

  17. Untitled-1PumpkinAdamMcD on Jul 05, 2011 07:21 PM

    Thanks [9].

  18. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jul 05, 2011 07:22 PM

Oh, geez. I was typing in a response to [12] along the lines of "Unfortunately, I did try to Tanga. Just not the right way, apparently. And I can't figure out what to slang..." But before I could type that last sentence, the right slang word hit me and then the letters I had found 10 minutes ago fit and voila!

Nice. Simple. Elegant. Stumping. Good job. :)

  19. DadRaspberryjayvil on Jul 05, 2011 07:23 PM

[9] The font is all nice and formal. It don't lead to using the necessary slang. :)

  20. ErwinPepperTangaAl on Jul 05, 2011 07:24 PM

Well, I'm glad no one was around as I tried saying aloud any "slang" term I could come up with. For some reason, [18] was the push I needed. Is it too much to say that my favorite English teacher would disapprove?

  21. FileCarrotmmene on Jul 05, 2011 07:26 PM

Well, I just hope the slang is not culture specific. I am still not getting it.

  22. Tanga_shadow_goat_2-fpAceshiella on Jul 05, 2011 07:26 PM

yay, 80!!! can't get hyper to work tho:(

  23. FileEggplantPillacd on Jul 05, 2011 07:28 PM

[18], I followed the same path you did. And yes, this was a good job indeed.

  24. 1a1Sailboatbodhisattva on Jul 05, 2011 07:29 PM

    Thanks [19]

  25. FileEggplantPillacd on Jul 05, 2011 07:30 PM

[22] Google "telephone game" (suggested by the title), then look at the clues again.

  26. Obamas_elfSailboatObamas_Elf on Jul 05, 2011 07:30 PM

I wasted a while trying variations and resulting words from an alternate answer that fits the solve method as well as the expected answer. *Sigh*

  27. FractalTomatodduensing on Jul 05, 2011 07:30 PM

    terrible, terrible English....bad bad bad

  28. ErwinPepperTangaAl on Jul 05, 2011 07:30 PM

    davidrager:

Congrats on your first puzzle, by the way. Great job!

  29. TobuzooPepperdavidrager on Jul 05, 2011 07:33 PM

    [9] I would say it's more "non-standard" than "slang".

    [11][13][18][23] Thanks. (and [28])

  30. Chivas-regal-12-200bPotatoPimperio on Jul 05, 2011 07:32 PM

*groan*. thanks [9]. that helped make me 99th.

  31. Cutie_jillianPeppersuzique on Jul 05, 2011 07:34 PM

Wow -- I never would've gotten it without [9]'s slang salt. Even then, it's not a word I use, so it was way outside my thinking.

  32. FileEggj15bell on Jul 05, 2011 07:35 PM

it's maths an I got 19th. what a great a-ha moment. great puzzle!

  33. FileDuckiePatanga on Jul 05, 2011 07:35 PM

Wish I had spent time here instead of going to the hypercross.....since the hyper wasn't working properly.

  34. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jul 05, 2011 07:39 PM

[19] I think that's what put this puzzle over the top. Who'd've thought? :)

[21] Um, it is kind of culture specific. But I know where you live and if you haven't heard someone around there say it, I'd be shocked!

    [28] Agreed! Great job!

  35. FilePancakestempus42 on Jul 05, 2011 07:45 PM

I totally think this should have been "disney".

  36. Tanga_shadow_goat_2-fpAceshiella on Jul 05, 2011 07:47 PM

davidrager-- congrats on first puzzle! simply clever hope to see more!! thanks
wish I'd started here!! Instead of wasting time on hyper that won't open!
[33] what kind of trouble did you have on hyper?

  37. BjDuckiedrlaura92 on Jul 05, 2011 07:59 PM

I still can't figure out what to substitute for "not equals" I have the other puzzles done, but I am going to have to take a break from this one, and hope it comes to me later.

...Finally, got it. I just had to get away from "is not"

  38. BjDuckiedrlaura92 on Jul 05, 2011 07:50 PM

Funny [35], I tried Disney as well

  39. MarkerryanCarrotryanker on Jul 05, 2011 08:10 PM

Hold it... this is your first puzzle? Nicely done, davidrager.

  40. FileCarrotmmene on Jul 05, 2011 08:39 PM

OK, I think I am giving up for now. I have scratched my poor head so and all in vain. If anyone is charitable enough they can TG me some salt.

  41. TobuzooPepperdavidrager on Jul 05, 2011 08:53 PM

[35] I hadn't thought of that possible solution, otherwise I might have gone in that direction. It fits my hobby of riding roller coasters.

  42. FileBananaBobcat on Jul 06, 2011 01:18 AM

Well shewt, y'all... y'call that bad english or spellin'? Just depends on yer regional accent, ah reckon...

And yes, that is a horrible, horrible pun.

  43. F6856Pearcoltsiebenaler on Jul 06, 2011 06:20 AM

I cant get it, can anyone send me a message with the answer, this is ruining my day!

    Got it : )

  44. Avatar_profileStrawberrynikitas84 on Jul 06, 2011 05:56 AM

    well it's not DIY

  45. 100_1703Eggsonjahi on Jul 06, 2011 06:00 AM

OMG! I just read the solution text... ha-ha... nothing like getting stumped on a puzzle that you yourself inspired! :)

Well, I guess sometimes it is easier to make puzzles like this than it is to solve them...

[43] The solution will be available for viewing after 24 hours. Come back after 7pm Pacific time and you can vuew it. I'll send a message with a hint though. :)

  46. FileAppledennishiding on Jul 06, 2011 06:14 AM

I certainly needed [9] and [13] to make progress.

  47. SlideuleSailboatDaSaintFan on Jul 06, 2011 07:29 AM

okay, i'm still seeing Disney every time I look at this thing... and that's not taking. (and this from a guy with a southern accent, and I'm still not seeing the slang).

Grr: P&S, as I was stuck on using "math' and not language.

  48. Avatar_profileStrawberrylabboypro on Jul 06, 2011 11:09 AM

    [29]

    more like, linguistic laziness.

  49. Avatar_profilePeardarcynurse on Jul 06, 2011 02:12 PM

okay guys, I need a hint.....I guess I don't speak enough slang and I am just NOT getting anywhere here...

  50. Avatar_profileStrawberrynikitas84 on Jul 06, 2011 02:50 PM

    got it

    a stinker imho

  51. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on Jul 06, 2011 04:02 PM

[6] FWIW, sometimes there isn't an "easy" OWW. In fact... puzzlemakers, your OWW will likely get fastracked (as fasttracked as Tanga gets) if it's simple and easy.

  52. FilePotatojunderscore on Jul 06, 2011 07:25 PM

You solved this puzzle in 21 hours, 4 minutes and 36 seconds and were the 267th Tanga member to solve it.

    Thanks, j15bell!

  53. FileCarrotengles on Jul 07, 2011 08:52 AM

I was always told that second part wasn't a word. Little did my English teachers know! Although, according to Merriam-Webster, the first known usage was in 1749...

  54. Avatar_profileLemonSajantzen on Jul 07, 2011 07:26 PM

    I just don't get the solution...it doesn't make sense.
