I do with this answer about the loading issues!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's fix this problem!!!!
EDIT This is a nice puzzle!!!!!
Finally got bit by the loading issues. *sigh*
Wouldn't load....took over one minute....uggghhhh
Loved it
Nice puzzle. Ssssssslllllllloooooowwwwwwww Llllllloooooaaaaaddddd.
Loading issues were ridiculous tonight but still managed a 42!
very frustrating when you know the answer from just looking at the thumbnail and then can't
get to the answer screen. Did OK on OWW, so I ain't complaining. Maybe everybody should stop
trying to do the Cryptopixes first. Hmmm...
loading.....sigh...

First time experiencing the loading problems. Would have been ranked higher for sure. Oh well.
You are a freaking genius!! You solved this puzzle.

Ah who cares
LOL! Love it. =)
Really?
LOVE it!!! I have got to set my timer to go off at 8pm, so I can be one of the first 100 (some day)
I got it, but it's totally 'doughnut', as doughnuts are made from dough...not 'do'
[15] I totally agree with you. My wife and I fight over this.
You solved this puzzle in 9 seconds and were the 422nd Tanga member to solve it. :D
As for 'do' or 'dough' - see puzzle answer. Sorry (15), I was waiting for an one of the comments that I could respond to with that response and yours was the first that worked :-> It won't happen again.
[15] I have never heard or seen anyone use "doughnut"
[15] I also totally agree with you. Donut is linguistic laziness in the same category as "thru", "lite", "xmas", etc. (not blaming you, imgames...it's just ingrained in our culture.)
[19] I've seen it many, many times. And it's pronounced identically, so you could have heard it often without realizing it...
uhm.. correct me if I"m wrong, but it wouldn't matter which spelling you use if you go by the phonetics...
the colloquial version sounds just like the shortened version, yes?

Can I blame Dunkin' Donut or Mr. Donut? I'm sure I'd get in trouble for a "krispy" spelling of "crispy" or "kreme" spelling of "cream". But as (21) said, they are both pronounced the same so the puzzle is correct except for my spelling in the solution.
You solved this puzzle in 6 seconds
I don't either :)
[21] It makes a difference. If you remove the first "u" in doughnut you get two words instead of a contraction. Solved the puzzle in 5 seconds and then spent the next 10 minutes trying to figure out why the system kept saying I was wrong.
[25] Ahhh... I was right there with [21] until you said that. I've been planning to use the same cluing mechanism but may now have to ponder some more.
As far as people insisting that it HAS to be doughnut, not donut: I HAVE to disagree with you. Every single shop in my town spells it donut. As a matter of fact, 'donut' gives you 55,300,000 Google hits to 'doughnut's 13,300,000 hits.
The argument is a bit like arguing over barbecue vs. barbeque. You just have to admit that some people spell it differently than you, and both are right.
[20] is right to a point (regarding linguistic laziness). But linguistic laziness IS part of our culture and over time it results in new "official" spellings. Words change in meaning and spelling over time. Most Americans would no longer use the word "gay" to describe how they are feeling or "pussy" to describe their feline companion - regardless of the origin of the words. And most of us don't care that a donut should "rightfully" be spelled doughnut just because it's made of dough. We spell it how we see it most often.
Oh, and I find it positively hysterical that this linguistic discussion is taking place on the thread for a puzzle with this answer! lol
(25) I stand corrected! You make a good point. The superscript (1) that I used with the R in the puzzle is a convention that we have adopted to mean the first occurrence of the letter R in the word. I don't know of a convention to indicate "all" occurrences of the letter - maybe the picture of the donut (I don't like it that the editor underlines my "donut" in red) and then minus U with a superscript of (all)?
[25][28] To be fair, you only really get 2 words if you treat it as a spelling clue and since the rest of the puzzle is phonetics, you shouldn't treat that one as spelling. We typically don't have mixed cluing. So, phonetically, if you subtract the first U from doughnut, you have... what? daw-nut? or do-nut? I would tend to say that you can't phonetically subtract the first U from doughnut.
...any salt please on what that round thing in the second picture is
Fair enough [25], but I'll be honest, 95 times out of a 100 (and maybe because it's how I try to write mine)... I tend to think FIRST in terms of phonetics in any crypto before I think word math, unless it's ABSOLUTELY obvious you have to use Math.. (which I don't have a problem how anyone clues.. everyone has their preferences.). Admittedly, I think my desire to stick with Phonetics has gotten a few of mine rejected or reworked. (particularly the "TH" from The)
BTW.. for what it's worth: "The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition copyright ©2000 by Houghton Mifflin Company. " considers Donut a valid "variant" spelling of Doughnut.
