Was stuck on the answer being "adnoide" (ha ha), even though that really made no sense, nor was spelled correctly. Finally looked beyond...
Dang, I tried to make this much harder than it is. 96th, bleh.
Wasting time on a 3-point cryptopix and got here too late. Bummer.

soo... frustrated..... is this inherent in the puzzle, or do I need some outside knowledge of the Inspector or some reference?? no specs necessary, just feeling a NEED to KNOW (and I've reached my 45 minute self-imposed time limit for working on this)... :(

[14] There have been several "Inspector Callahan" OWWs recently, all with similar solving methods. The first one was really hard. The second was easy for those who remembered the first. Now, I wouldn't be surprised if many jump to the solution method, and only really read the story afterwards. (I read it first, even though I knew I'd lose 20-30 points for doing so- came in 43rd anyway.)

So, this required me to go back and look at a previous Inspector Callahan puzzle that had hints in order to solve this one. Without that other puzzle, I don't think I would have ever solved this one! Thanks, QurqirishDragon (and jebediehard).

How come I had no trouble solving the Callahan's previous puzzles, but I have no idea what to do with the clue here?
