    bottem picture has me lost

  2. FilePotatojmsmith2434 on Nov 19, 2011 07:11 PM

NM, the fact that there are no girls in the picture is significant

Warning: The second picture is technically wrong, but most people will give the word needed.

[6][7] Edit: My bad. I just looked up the definition in dictionary.com for "paddle". A "paddle" is a type of _ _ _. So the picture is correct, although not the precise shape that _ _ _ enthusiasts may want to see.

[1] amd [2]: You need to identify what's inside the green rectangle.

    [2] t/y!

    Funny puzzle. I liked it.

[3] Why do you say it's wrong? Seems to work to me.

And if you think it's wrong, why'd you put it there!? ;)

[5] Someone recently claimed that that pic is a paddle, not the word desired here. But it's almost ubiquitous here for the intended word.

I wanted those guys to be walking with intent for awhile. Took me a few seconds to get past it.

[6] The second image is indeed a paddle, not the desired word. I wouldn't say it's ubiquitous here, though there are some constructors who have wrongly used a paddle image more than once. It's very easy to find an appropriate image for the desired word, so there's no good excuse for using an erroneous image.

When I google images, both look the same to me. I don't get it. Are there lots of tanganites that are professional canoers or something that makes this drive them up a wall?

  9. FileClockJewelia on Nov 19, 2011 09:12 PM

[8] I have never paddled a canoe (or a kayak or a raft), nor have I ever crewed a scull (or rowed a rowboat), but the grip on the upper end of the second image clearly indicates that it is a paddle, not the intended word.

[6] Even if an error was ubiquitous, shouldn't we strive to avoid it in the future?

    [9] Clearly my a**!

I can barely see anything on the upper end and why would that indicate one or the other?

  11. Avatar_profilePearcanaryk on Nov 19, 2011 11:14 PM

Wait. I'm so sure that I got it, but it's not taking my answer... what's the last step that I'm missing?

    edit//
OH. I'm silly, there was no last steps, it appears I just don't know how to use plurals.

  12. AvadoneDuckiebargellos on Nov 20, 2011 04:59 AM

[3] Correct. It wasn't just my interest in posting cute guys. There was method to my selection of the picture.

The exact name of the paddle did not deter me in the least from quickly solving the puzzle.

You solved this puzzle in 4 seconds

    Perfectly clued :)

As an active outdoors person, I definitely consider the paddle as completely separate from the --- in this puzzle. It's obvious what is intended, and has passed through here many many times before, but I hope future puzzle makers (and mods?) get it right! ;-)

Feel free to use the above clue image for a "------ to the Sea", or "Without a ------" Crypto... :P

  16. FileStrawberryeviscia on Nov 20, 2011 11:06 AM

Oh who cares about the darn paddle... close enough. My only concern is that I don't think those guys know they look like idiots.

  17. AvadoneDuckiebargellos on Nov 20, 2011 04:50 PM

[15] Yes, showing a paddle for the word _ _ _ is at least a little clearer than using Einstein for Duh! :)

[7][9] When I said it was commonly used, I was not making any statement on whether it should or shouldn't be used. I was merely answering [5]'s question about what was theoretically wrong with the picture, nothing more.
