Good grief, I had it early enough to finish in the top twelve, thanks to Google. BUT I copied the title in Wikipedia that contained a unique variation of a letter that wasn't recognized here. Left and came back only to realize it HAD to be the answer. Once I changed that letter, it worked. : )

    EDIT: as identified by [5].

France is a crybaby. True or false?

  9. MyteamlogoRadishBonehead606 on Nov 07, 2011 07:11 PM

    [8] True!

My three years of high school French finally pay off -- with spelling, at least. I feel sorry for you people who took a "useful" language like Spanish, instead ;-)

  15. TimpaniPepperdjschwartz on Nov 07, 2011 08:02 PM

    I don't speak French

I knew what the answer was going for, but couldn't think of the last clued word which then built a block in my brain to the answer word. Thank you google autocomplete!

I liked the dual use of Parisland in this one, as well as the hint it provides to the answer.

    [17] C'est fromage!

    [20] Moi aussi.

    [8] Ok, that's funny. :)

I too struggled with this one since I didn't know the person. Add to that that my initial assumption on the last clue was wrong, my second one was right but my Google attempt was too messed up to get to the answer, and then I went to an English->French translator which gave me a (slightly) different word for False. I am still impressed that Google was able to convert what I typed in (eventually) to the desired answer.

2 1/2 minutes still got me 83rd. I was actually surprised that so many other people are either familiar enough with French or with the person to get it so quickly.

I do like the cluing quite a bit. And, Will Shortz rocks. :)

  24. FileCarrot12Buffalo on Nov 08, 2011 01:28 PM

    Who?

  25. Tanga_profile_photoEggWhiteKnight85 on Nov 08, 2011 01:38 PM

I don't know much about HIM, but I really enjoyed a book he wrote, which was a series of interviews that he conducted with a famous director. I won't say which director for fear of giving too much salt, but they discuss each of the director's films in the order that they were worked on. Pretty interesting.

Should really be spelled with a different letter...

  27. Avatar_profileLemonrewardjr on Nov 16, 2011 08:44 AM

I don't know, but I think the French should be speaking German.

  28. Avatar_profileWatermelonrfaronson on Nov 16, 2011 09:44 AM

The email should not have said it was a one word wonder.
