A lot easier to get this once I saw the OWW and Hypercross... nice trio, renfurdson!

  2. Nick_dress_blues_2Pancakesbitwisenot on Dec 26, 2011 07:17 PM

12 minutes in, and I'm just the 30th solver? This is a tricky one, and it was (somewhat) helpful to do the OWW and hyper first. For posterity's sake, the rest of the triptych is:

Nice puzzles renfurdson, thanks for making them!

Edit: The phonetics are a bit of a stretch on the last part of this one (the middle thing blending into the third thing), and that was where knowing the "theme" from the other puzzles came in handy.

  3. FileGarlicMrPlow99 on Dec 26, 2011 07:13 PM

Got the other 2, but don't see what to do with this.

  4. FilePancakestempus42 on Dec 26, 2011 07:15 PM

[3] i do see a tenuous connection here, but haven't been able to figure out the right wording to use yet, apparently

  5. FileEggplantnefertiti19 on Dec 26, 2011 07:28 PM

    [3] I'm with you.

Got it with help from a friend, but yeah - quite a stretch on the phonics there.

  6. FileOnionjaymanmsu on Dec 26, 2011 07:16 PM

Easy after doing the other two, but it's a stretch on its own.

  7. FileCarrotamaguriken on Dec 26, 2011 07:29 PM

[3][4][5] Ditto. There's an "obvious" answer, but that's no good.

    (Edit)
    Thanks, [2].
I liked my answer a lot better. The things I had to do to the English language to get the accepted answer... *shudder* I'm going to go shower now.

  8. FilePumpkinkenpez on Dec 26, 2011 07:17 PM

You definitely have to figure out what all three puzzles have in common.

  9. FileGarlicMrPlow99 on Dec 26, 2011 07:19 PM

[8] I see what the other 2 puzzles have in common, but that's not helping me.

  10. FileOnionjaymanmsu on Dec 26, 2011 07:19 PM

I hope it's not to early for the salt, but think of famous players from the teams in HC clues 4 and 12. Together.

  11. FileEggplantPillacd on Dec 26, 2011 07:29 PM

yeah, all I have is the obvious answer. Do you have to follow the sport to get this?

NM, P&S. I still had my brain in OWW mode.

  12. FilePumpkinkenpez on Dec 26, 2011 07:24 PM

[9] If you can figure out the connection, then you should be able to swish the right answer.
    [11] Think common terms.

  13. FilePancakestempus42 on Dec 26, 2011 07:24 PM

[12] thanks - that's a huge stretch even with all the clues here

  14. FileRaspberryMarkel on Dec 26, 2011 07:25 PM

    Poorly clued.

  15. Avatar_profileWatermelonklccjks38 on Dec 26, 2011 07:25 PM

    That was a stretch

  16. FileCarrot12Buffalo on Dec 26, 2011 07:27 PM

Just like the NBA not good

  17. FileGarlicMrPlow99 on Dec 26, 2011 07:28 PM

    Thanks [2] (edit) and [12].

Don't worry about the color in the middle, it's not important. And be prepared to do some major phonetic mangling.

  18. Yamaha_baby_grandSailboatartval on Dec 26, 2011 07:29 PM

The third clue could also have been Russian for NO.

  19. BjDuckiedrlaura92 on Dec 26, 2011 07:34 PM

Yay, after slurring all of this together for a few minutes (while thinking about the theme), it finally made sense. I was still able to get 90th.

  20. 07310099PancakesLakeLivin on Dec 31, 2011 08:33 AM

Finally got it. Unless I'm missing something, it's not just a matter of slurring. You have to subtract a syllable from the second and third clues.

I appreciate the effort, but especially taking into account Renfurdson's rich puzzle making history, this one's an airball.

  21. Picture-303Pumpkingodard on Dec 26, 2011 07:40 PM

Flagrant foul: extra syllable violation and vowel strangulation

  22. 1a1Sailboatbodhisattva on Dec 26, 2011 07:54 PM

In the same boat of having the other two and not getting this. Maybe I'll come back in the morning

Nevermind, got it! Slur some, leave some letters out, say it a lot, finally got it!

  23. FileRocketscottolmsted on Dec 26, 2011 07:53 PM

Somehow got all three after 49 minutes, lots of stretching (of the brain / phonetics / etc), lots of tabs (tanga, nba logos, google), and finally a big arrrrgggghhh moan. The oww was good, though. Or at least it wasn't uNBAerable (sp...I know)

  24. Pb-101214-cross-eyed-9a.photoblog900_cSailboatwidedeki on Dec 26, 2011 08:10 PM

  28. Brownie_sundaeGarlicbrownie1 on Dec 26, 2011 08:56 PM

This stinks trying to do these from a phone tonight. And then the theme to top it off! *sigh*

  29. 986375337_mSailboatStereoMike on Dec 26, 2011 10:55 PM

Also, the first symbol is not a Greek letter.

  30. 1a1Sailboatbodhisattva on Dec 26, 2011 11:14 PM

Not sure if this will help, but think Larry Byrd McDonalds commercial!

  31. FilePotatoGinnyjulie on Dec 26, 2011 11:36 PM

I googled "Michael Jordan and Larry Bird".

  32. Panda-flyGarlicpandapal on Dec 27, 2011 12:22 AM

Arrrgghhh!! I was using the name of the Greek letter! Don't.....

    Think in more mathematical terms.....

  33. SlideuleSailboatDaSaintFan on Dec 27, 2011 01:02 AM

Ugh.,... real stretch on the third clue. (Plus i kept seeing the Greek)

  34. Doggie_puppy_loveAppledoxeelady on Dec 27, 2011 04:26 AM

only got it due to salt

  35. FilePotatojmsmith2434 on Dec 27, 2011 07:24 AM

    Awful

  36. Pb-101214-cross-eyed-9a.photoblog900_cSailboatwidedeki on Dec 27, 2011 07:45 AM

  38. FileStrawberrymsdenise866 on Dec 27, 2011 08:05 AM

  39. JellyApplebeemer330 on Dec 27, 2011 08:18 AM

[30] Thanks. The answer was the next thing i said after reading that.

Also makes me think of NBA Jam quotes. "From doooowwwntown". "Boom-Shakalaka!!"

  44. MoonrakerCarrotmoonraker on Dec 27, 2011 01:24 PM

Thanks [30]. Never would have gotten it otherwise. Was convinced the first item was a Greek letter. It isn't.

  45. CreepingthymePlumPeaceInThyme on Dec 27, 2011 01:43 PM

Not only is the empty set symbol not a Greek letter, it isn't even empty set.

  46. FileRocketcheyennebay on Dec 27, 2011 06:49 PM
