My first OWW 1st!
You solved this puzzle in 2 minutes and 35 seconds and were the 1st Tanga member to solve it. You earned 110 points for solving this.
Happy 2012 to all! :-)
You have got to be kidding Arnott!
[2] Did you actually solve it or did you do what I did and solved the crypto and hypercross first?
I really enjoyed this! (And yes, I did solve it.)
LOL I did both. I did the crypto and the hypercross, then solved this one (the long way), failing to consider the information from the crypto and the hypercross. Oh well, 27th isn't shameful. *Almost* had them from memory, but I couldn't remember the middle name for that dude who isn't very short.
I had to look it up like it the solution notes mention, but I didn't even know if that was going to work. Figured it was worth a try for the bonus points.
5th.... Loved this theme!!!! Excellent Truptych, Arnot! You do not dissapoint. :)
Well, I solved it for real too and am glad I did. I'm also glad I was able to get most of these from memory. Very clever way to start it off too! I'm embarrassed to admit that I had to let Google autocomplete what I had for the 3rd one (I don't think of that person in this category, although I should). I had to use OneLook to get the 8th one but not embarrassed to admit that since I didn't know that person. This one was my favorite of the triptych!
Went through the entire puzzle to solve. Enjoyed it!!!
Well clued. Fun Puzzle
What fun! Lot of work, but fun. Thanx Arnott
I also did it the long way, not too familiar with the girls. Still fun, thanks Arnott.
23rd - good for me on a OWW (admittedly taking the "shortcut").
Nice tryptich....I am sorry I didn't get here at 9 pm.
Poetry....BARFFFFF
Did some googling, but solved this the long way. Really liked this one, even though it was work. Wish I'd been here at 10--but enjoyed the cards with the girls, so it was worth it.
Thanks, all. I spent a LOT of time making sure to carry over *as many* letters as I could from name to name, just to make this as solvable as I could for those who aren't that familiar with the subject. Like, for example, giving you the 3rd letter of name six, even though I think just giving you letters 2 and 4 might have been enough.
My two big hurdles were:
1. In order to get to the final answer I wanted, I found only two fair choices for the penultimate poet - the one I used, or Charles Bukowski :) And since there was no way giving you CHARLES to fill in BUKOWSKI was gonna fly, I at least tried my best to point you in a Google-able direction for the other one.
2. A lot of the more known poets just didn't have the right letters. I originally, for example, went from name one to CARL SANDBURG (giving you -ARL), but that added too many steps (it "flipped" my first name/last name thing, and threw me off) The TSO in TENNYSON lead nicely into FROST, but then ROBERT only led well into ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING, which I couldn't fit into one line :) So I threw out the "better" names and went with what got me there quickly (for example, I would have preferred not to use name three, even though he technically fits, but he saved me three steps!)
I'm glad to see people enjoying it. Again, thanks.
[18] Ah, I feel vindicated that you didn't want to use #3. :)
This one was great! Should have been featured!
(heh heh...)
Salt: pop goes the weasel!
[19] Yeah, I know. And the weird part is that he's really almost as famous for his poetry, but it still feels like a teeny cheat, right?
