I am completely stumped on this one

  2. FileClockJewelia on Jan 14, 2012 07:48 AM

    [1] You are not alone!

  3. FileGarlicMrPlow99 on Jan 14, 2012 07:48 AM

[1] Likewise. No idea where to even start with this.

  4. FileCheeseburgerErich on Jan 14, 2012 07:55 AM

Very tricky, but several nice ah-ha moments. No math involved. Start in the upper left of the upper left.

  5. FileClockJewelia on Jan 14, 2012 08:04 AM

[4] Start what in the UL of the UL? Is counting considered math?

  6. FilePancakestempus42 on Jan 14, 2012 08:08 AM

maybe if I could figure out why a couple of them have dashes and the others do not, I would have a clue?

  7. FileCheeseburgerErich on Jan 14, 2012 08:09 AM

[5] Counting is definitely in order, here.

  8. FileCheeseburgerErich on Jan 14, 2012 08:13 AM

[6] It helps to ignore the dashes, at first. Once you have a handle on the numbers, you can figure out what to with the dashes.

Thank you [4], that did it for me. But it was a long drawn-out process to get there.

This was actually a very nice puzzle, it just needed something to help clue the solve method.
I can't think of a good way to do that, other than to say: Don't over think!

Alright I have an issue with the 7th letter. There is an ambiguity as you proceed along the solve method, in that there are 2 possible paths to take once you get to a certain point (though only one makes sense). The problem is, the number corresponding to that other path is still there and is, as far as I can tell, not used. Given that the method seems to rely on used numbers being "discarded" I find this problematic and irritating. I feel that particular number should simply not exist in the puzzle - perhaps there's something I'm missing though.

  12. Soccer_ballCheeseburgersoccer_ref on Jan 14, 2012 09:06 AM

[11] It IS used, for the next letter. But it's probably easier to skip the 7th one and do the rest, then come back. Less confusing.

  13. Nick_dress_blues_2Pancakesbitwisenot on Jan 14, 2012 09:31 AM

[12] I don't think that it's used for the next letter...

  14. FileEggj15bell on Jan 14, 2012 09:34 AM

[11] can be confusing to those of us who didn't have a clue, but I got one, thanks, you know who you are. must admit connecting the salt to the solve method was a leap for me.

  15. FileTomatoMurdoctor on Jan 14, 2012 09:43 AM

Interesting idea, but as others have mentioned, there are a couple of ambiguities with the solve method. I think it might have been better to have placeholder zeroes indicate when something should NOT be used.

  16. FileDuckiePatanga on Jan 14, 2012 09:50 AM

thanks to the person who helped me.....I would never have gotten this on my own.

  17. FileEggplantDeemiklos on Jan 14, 2012 10:22 AM

[16] Can I get any of that help? I'm completely stumped on this one. (made the previous one seem like magic!)
Edit: thanks for the tg! I have it now. I just wasn't able to connect the dots without some help.

  18. Phi3CornPhilana on Jan 14, 2012 11:17 AM

[11] I agree with you. There is definitely an extraneous number in the 7th letter!

  19. FilePepperarmyknife on Jan 14, 2012 11:15 AM

Is there an extra "5" at the end of the second row (or beginning of the third row) of the middle dot of the righthand column? This may be what [11] is referring to, since I found that the other ambiguities were ok to deal with.

I did like this one though!

  20. Phi3CornPhilana on Jan 14, 2012 11:19 AM

[19] There's an extraneous "5" at the beginning of the third row of numbers in the middle circle in the right column. In other words, "5744" should be "744".

  21. FileEggplantnefertiti19 on Jan 14, 2012 12:13 PM

Everything I've tried has an ambiguity; I think I get at least the general concept, but not sure how to apply it.

  22. 8grg3zbpu691mpv38q2nRaspberryjebediehard on Jan 14, 2012 12:54 PM

[20] Thanks Philana and sorry everyone. I fixed it now.

  23. FileEggknights23 on Jan 14, 2012 03:59 PM

    Really lost on this one

  24. FileDuckieRussellWilliams on Jan 14, 2012 05:38 PM

Wow that is the first puzzle I have ever seen on this site where even reading the solution I have no idea how the solve method works.

  25. FilePancakesArnott (Tanga Admin) on Jan 14, 2012 05:49 PM

    [24] LOL

[15[ Oooo, yeah, that might've worked. I guess Jeb shoulda run this by you instead of me :)

  26. BjDuckiedrlaura92 on Jan 15, 2012 07:25 PM

Still lost. Anybody need help with a puzzle from the last 2 days that I can trade for a TG here?

  27. UturnPotatoSmithyP on Jan 16, 2012 12:15 AM

Wow! 71st at 3AM EST on Monday. [9] was salty enough for me as long as I remembered to pick up the pencil now-and-then.

  28. Christopher_david_ryan_-_eyeGarlickc6201 on Jan 16, 2012 03:25 AM

Anybody want to TG me some more salt? I think I know what I'm supposed to do but I don't know how to go about doing it.

  29. FileKiwiPoisonIvy213 on Jan 18, 2012 05:45 AM

Been lost on this one for days....

  30. Christopher_david_ryan_-_eyeGarlickc6201 on Jan 18, 2012 06:21 AM

You solved this puzzle in 2 days, 3 hours, and 26 minutes and were the 91st Tanga member to solve it.

You have to connect the dots to form letters. Like [4] says, start in the upper-left. Notice the first number is 1. You want to connect to the dot with a 2.

  31. BjDuckiedrlaura92 on Jan 19, 2012 04:45 PM

You solved this puzzle in 3 days, 22 hours, and 17 minutes and were the 95th Tanga member to solve it.
Thank you kc6201 [30]. I will be eternally grateful for finally allowing me to put this one to rest.
