Not NEARLY as bad as others make it sound

I originally learned about the Diva Cup from a small ad in a Cosmo magazine. I'd never heard of such a thing, so went online to check it out. (There are other brands out there if you aren't happy with this particular one) After reading so many good reviews, curiosity got the best of me and I ordered one. Here's what I think a potential buyer should know: Pros: *You don't have to worry about using the right size like with tampons. This can be used through your entire period, no matter how heavy or light. *As long as it's correctly inserted, it cannot leak. This is the first month I've used it and I've had NO leaks at all--not even a little spotting. No problems during my workouts either. *After the first day, I decided I needed to trim the stem. Once I did that, I couldn't feel it at all. *Once you get the hang of it, insertion and removal is EASY. Other reviewers talked about standing on their heads and doing hula dances to get this thing in right--it's not necessary. I can do mine squatting in a bathroom just fine. And while there's a little pressure with removal, it definitely does NOT feel like ripping your insides out. (but I guess everyone is different) I didn't have any problems with it getting stuck either. Cons: *It definitely takes a few tries to get used to this, but hey it took some time to get used to wearing tampons too! If you read and follow the directions EXACTLY, there won't be any problems. I made sure to read the directions a few times the week before my period to get familiar with them. *While the cup doesn't spill when emptied, it may pull some extra blood out with removal. Have a tissue on hand. *It has to be emptied and cleaned 2x a day. The instructions say every 10-12 hours. I've gone longer without any problems, but it still has to be done. *At the end of each cycle, you're supposed to put it in boiling water on the stove for 20 min. to REALLY get it clean. I haven't gotten that far yet, but I'm hoping to do that part when no one is home! I definitely like this product and will continue to use it. It's nice not to have to deal with leaks and only having to remove it twice a day (instead of 3-4 with tampons) is a plus. As long as you're comfortable with yourself, give it a try. [...].

Once you go Diva Cup...

...you'll never go back to using pads or tampons again! At first I was uncomfortable with the idea -- the Diva cup looks bulky and difficult to use for those who are not sexually active. But this product can't be beat. It's very comfortable, easy to clean, easy to take out and put in. Say goodbye to worrying about leaks forever -- you can keep in the Diva cup for up to 12 hours without any risk of toxic shock syndrome since it's made of safe silicone. Clean-up is easy, see the product website for information, or search 'Diva Cup' on Youtube for easy demonstrations on how to use. You just empty contents in the toilet or in the shower and rinse the cup with warm water. The great thing is, unlike tampons, you can use the Diva Cup with any flow and put it in well before your period starts so you're never caught by surprise. And unlike the tampon, it's not scratchy on a light flow. And unlike the pad, it won't leak. All you need is a panty-liner as a just-in-case backup. Just like how the tampon was the evolution of the pad (and people were uncomfortable with the idea when it first came out before it became more mainstream), the Diva cup will be the evolution of the tampon. More sanitary and comfortable, not to mention affordable from all the money you'll save with this purchase. No more buying boxes and boxes of tampons and pads again. The product should last anywhere between 1-10 years! I am so glad my girlfriends finally convinced me of the idea of a Diva cup and since you can use before being on your period, it gives ample time to practice inserting and removing until you have a system that is comfortable. After using it for the last two months, I tried tampons/pads again for a night and quickly found myself quickly reverting back to the Diva Cup.

Give it a try!

I had heard about the Diva cup for yrs but never tried it as I can be squimish about such matters. I finally decided to try it for a couple of reasons 1. I was trying to find a more natural approach to tampons and I didn't like pads 2. Amazon had it on sale for about $17 at the time. I have been using it for 4 months and I feel that I can give it a complete review. First let me say that I am 39yrs old, have had 3 vaginal deliveries and 1 c-section and have used tampons since I was 14yrs old. Since my last baby about 3yrs ago I got a Paraguard IUD put in and my periods have been heavier then before. So heavy in fact that for about 2days of my cycle I was cautious about leaving the house for any length of time and would get up several times a night using the Super tampons :( I agree with some of the reviews about trying it out before you have your period. It did take some practice to get the feel for it and to know when it is placed in correctly. Since I have gotten the hang of it, I have used it while traveling out of town, swimming at a pool and the beach and even when I sleep. I think the best part of it is now even on my heavy days and nights I can go much longer before taking it out then with tampons and can even go all night...Thank God! I have not had any problems or reactions to using it and I tend to be a bit sensitive in that area. Just some tips for going out in public. Once you learn how to use it, it isn't messy. I always try to get in the handicapped stall where they have a sink with the toilet for easier handwashing and clean up. I also always keep a bottle of water in my purse during this time in case I don't have a sink in the stall with me. Once I empty the cup in the toilet, I use the bottle of water to rinse it out and dump in the toilet. I am sure this goes without saying but always wash your hands before and after use. I for sure recommend this for anyone.

Less Cramps!!!~~All women need to try a menstrual cup

I Love My DivaCup! It is the only brand that I have tried but it works well for me. If a woman is capable of wearing a tampon, then they have to give a DivaCup (or any menstrual cup) a try. They are soooo superior to ancient tampons. I love that I can insert this in the morning and not have to worry about it for 12 hours. No more carrying around tampons that always seem to find their way to my 'bottomless purse.' This also means that I only have to change it twice a day. It keeps me a lot fresher than tampons also. It is also easy on the pockets. A DivaCup cost $20/12 months, that 's $1.67 per month :O It easily pays for it self within a few months of purchasing. DivaCup recommends buying a new one once a year, but since I am cleaning it properly and often, I don't see a yearly purchase being necessary. I also love the environmental awareness that comes with using a DivaCup=less tampons and pads clogging wastelands. And lets not forget about my cramps. For some reason, my cramps have drastically disappeared since using the cup (maybe because tampons are so drying?). It's the best thing ever! There is a learning curve and I would recommend giving the DivaCup a 3 month try out (by my 2nd period, I was good to go). As for teens using these (I've had a child so I use model 2), a teen might have to work her way up to it (pad, tampon, then DivaCup). But this could be a stress relief for teen girls not having to carrying around feminine products. I'm trying to get all of my girlfriends to try a DivaCup!

I'll never go back!

I've been using the Diva Cup for maybe nine months now, and I don't think I'll ever go back to tampons. It took a couple cycles to feel like I had the hang of it, but the learning curve is worth it. One weird thing that happens to me is that it never opens up the first time I put it in each cycle. I leave it in there, wait a few hours, and try again and then it's fine. PSA: It leaks if you cough a ton! You can usually make sure you don't have to do it in a public bathroom since you can go so long between...what would you call them...dumps? Ha! It's easiest to do the dump/insert in the shower or in a bathroom that has a sink right by the toilet. It's not so great if you have to walk far to the sink, like in a master bathroom, for example. Oh, and I use mine inside out. The tail kept jabbing me, so I flipped it like another commenter said she did. I have recommended this to everyone! Well, just the girls. :) I don't hate periods anymore! I think everyone should give it a good try.

Really Excited About My Period?!

I haven't had my menstrual cycle yet since purchasing this item however, I did test it out and it was extremely comfortable. I have a tilted uterus and I can't wear tampons. It is extremely painful for me to wear tampons and they usually get pushed out when I sit down. I've been forced to wear pads since I first started menstruating but I've never liked wearing pads. I hate wearing pads and it feels unsanitary. I'm hoping that this menstrual cup will free me from the need to wear pads while also still being comfortable. So far, it was very easy to insert and it was very comfortable. I sat down multiple times and moved around vigorously to test how comfortable it really was. I couldn't even feel anything! I have not had any children yet. If you purchase this, please read the instructions COMPLETELY before inserting the cup. This information will make it easier to insert, situate, and remove. I will update this review once I get my period and put it to the ultimate test!

Life changing!

After over 2 years of debating I finally took the plunge into the world of menstrual cups! And oh my goodness am I glad I did! I am 29 years old, have had 3 full term pregnancy all 3 delivered by c-section. I was on the fence about which size to putchase, but after A LOT of research and reading tons of reviews I went ahead with the size 2. The first time I I sorted it I was not on my period. I wanted to get a feel for how to work with it without the potential mess. Seemed easy enough and comfortable! When I did start my period I inserted the cup and had zero problems at all! I dont feel it at all. It only leaked twice on my first day of use and I did have to empty it 3 times that day. BUT I have an extremely heavy flow so I did expect that to happen. From day 2 on I only had to empty it once every 12 hours. And I am totally confident now on wether it is inserted correctly or not! Not a single leak after the first day of use! I have always had issues with my period. All I ever used was tampons and I have always jadd extremely heavy bleeding, cramping so bad that I would literally not be able to get out of bed, vomiting etc. Every. Single. Month. For years. This cycle, using the cup, is the first time in my life I have not been completely I capacktated by cramps and vomiting! Literally a life changer! If you are on the fence, just give it a try! Worth every penny!

Buy one now!

I should have bought one of these sooner! I have used pads, tampons, period panties (Thinx), and menstrual discs (Softcup, Flex), before trying a menstrual cup and this is the best period product ever created. I find the Diva Cup more comfortable than pads, tampons, and period panties and love that is is reusable and zero waste. Because of the cup's capacity, I can go most of the day without having to check on it, and I personally cannot feel or notice the cup throughout the day. Pros: Inexpensive. Buy one Diva Cup and use it over and over again, as opposed to buying pads, tampons, or discs you need to dispose of or multiple pairs of panties you need to wash by hand and air dry between uses. The Diva Cup will pay for itself in a few cycles. Zero waste. Once you recycle the initial packaging, the only thing you'll dispose of when you have your period is blood down the drain. The environment will thank you. Takes up less storage space than other period products. I used to have a whole makeup bag of different sized tampons, liner pads, and pads, and now I have one small little pouch. Comfortable. With the Diva Cup, I don't feel like I'm wearing a diaper, my crotch doesn't get swampy and sweaty, and my vag doesn't dry out. I personally don't feel the cup at all after initially putting it in. Sanitary and healthy. Silicone menstrual cups do not carry the risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome that tampons do, and pouring your blood down the drain is cleaner than leaving soaked pads and tampons in trash receptacles where others can be exposed to them. No smell. No one likes the smell of stale blood, and the Diva Cup prevents that. Fewer cramps than tampons. I found that I had fewer cramps and they were less severe than when using a product that blocks your flow. Less messy for yourself and others. I find a menstrual cup to be less messy than hand washing period underwear in the sink or having a garbage can full of used tampons and pads. It's much easier to be discrete when using the Diva Cup during my period, as I don't have to worry about where I'm hanging my period panties to dry or making sure the trash can is emptied before guests come over. Neutral/Things to Consider: Sizing/fit. One of the reasons I waited so long to get a menstrual cup because I was so confused about the sizing and did a lot of research and read that it was important to get the right cup - the right size, shape, and firmness. I finally gave in and bought the Diva Cup because it was the first brand I had ever heard of, and I had a few friends who swore by them; I ended up getting a size 1 cup because it was cheaper than the size 2 cup (I am over 30 but have never been pregnant, so I still technically fall into size 2 territory) and it works for me just fine. This is the first and only menstrual cup I have tried, so I don't have anything else to compare it to, but I'm happy with it. IUD compatibility. The other reason I waited so long to try a menstrual cup is because of some things I read about the possibility of the suction from removing the cup possibly dislodging an IUD. It seems to be more of a suggestion/concern from OBGYNs than something that happened often, but I was worried about it, particularly because I have had IUDs in the past that have expelled. I have worn the cup for 5-6 cycles now (I wanted to wait to review it until I had used it for a while) and have had no issues with my IUD. Cons: Public bathrooms. Using the Diva Cup is much easier if you have a private stall with a sink near the toilet. In public bathrooms it can be tricky to clean the Diva Cup between uses and keep your hands clean without a sink nearby. Leaks/getting a good seal. When I first insert the cup at the beginning of my period, I find it is sometimes challenging to get the cup to open fully and seal correctly and occasionally have to reinsert and rotate it a few times. I only had leaks on my second cycle with the Diva Cup, but I was still new to using it. Every other period product I have has leaked on occasion as well, so the Diva Cup really isn't any worse in this regard. Cannot be worn during sex. You can wear a menstrual disc such as Flex during vaginal intercourse (apparently) but not a menstrual cup. It may not be a factor for you, but I thought it was worth pointing out. Overall, I'm amazed by how awesome the Diva Cup is, so much so that I'm actually still excited about not having to use other products when I get my period. The Diva Cup is so easy and so much cleaner and less wasteful than other period products. Getting my period is still no fun, but at least the Diva Cup makes it a lot easier.

I wish they had invented this sooner

I resisted trying one of these for a long time despite some of my friends having made the switch years ago. I finally did it. Omg. Once you get the hang of putting it in (there is definitely a learning curve of a day or two.) you will be hooked! Never buy tampons again, don’t worry about leaks or strings, go all day without worry. Absolutely love it.

Counterfeit from Amazon, but the cup is amazing!

I also received a counterfeit product - the seller was Lady first, fulfilled by Amazon. The best way to tell is the bag, it clearly looks like a reprint of the real bag and the lines on the actual cup are not straight. When I called Amazon she said to make sure the item is sold and fulfilled by Amazon to guarantee a non-counterfit item. Super disappointing.... However, the Diva Cup deserves 5 stars because it's amazing. Unless you have had a vaginal delivery, I recommend trying the size 1 first. I've had 2 c-sections and I'm 29, I *can* use the size 2 but it really hurts to take out. The size 1 works much better for me, and I swear, I forget that I'm even on my period, it's a miracle product! I was really afraid of not being able to get it back out, and honestly, there's not a lot of places for it to go, if you're having any issues just sit down and do a kegel, it will come right out, don't worry about that and try this!! I can't believe nobody has told me this secret before now on how easy these cups are and how awesome it is compared to pads (so gross) or tampons. This thing is a lifesaver and has totally changed my world when I'm on my period. I never have to worry about it at all.
