Pair-a-phrases

Pair-a-phrases

After hearing a couple of people recently butcher and merge common idioms, I came up with this idea, which I call “pair-a-phrases”. Basically, you take two common phrases/expressions, such as “don’t count your chickens before they hatch” and “killing two birds with one stone”… and combine them into something that is silly, but still makes some kind of sense: “Don’t count your chickens with one stone.”

Here are a few other examples:
When one door closes, opportunity knocks.
Killing two birds in a barrel.
You can’t teach an old dog to get up with fleas.
Your left hand doesn’t know which side your bread is buttered.

Post some of your own “pair-a-phrases”!
