When the demented mind of our winner first spawned the WORST PUZZLE EVER, the collective IQ of the entire planet plummeted. Its foul presence caused a sudden spike in global crime rates, public outrage, and incontinence. A friend of mine attempted to solve it and has since been institutionalized. But we shouldn’t hold any of this against the twisted brain of the puzzlecrafter. Nay, if anything, we should consider the WORST PUZZLE EVER a teaching tool, a cautionary tale of sorts. When our own puzzles bomb and fellow Tanganites begin to spew hateful invective at us, we need only point them to this atrocious puzzle, and our puzzles will seem gloriously clever in comparison. It was an EXTREMELY difficult decision (there were just so many awful, awful puzzles) but one stood out as representing all that is wrong in puzzles. Without further ado, I now deem THE WORST PUZZLE EVER to be… puzzle 72 by jtotheh!

What more can I say about the WORST PUZZLE EVER? Jtotheh appears to have adopted an alter-ego of awfulness — let’s call him htothej — when creating this puzzle. Cyncat said it well when s/he said — “It looks so sincere. As if the puzzlemaker really believes that he is giving the best clues. And that switching languages is not a big deal.” So, congratulations, jtotheh, you and your doppelganger htothej can now proudly say that you created THE WORST PUZZLE EVER!

Every entry in this contest was riddled with awful logic, ridiculous clues, mindless solutions, and terrible images, so it’s only fitting that other awards be given out. The main category, WORST PUZZLE EVER, is the only one where only strict cryptopixes were admissible. Worst often means “best” here, so keep that in mind. And remember, these are mostly tongue-in-cheek, so I hope I don’t hurt anyone’s feelings.
