Words in the Weeds

Words in the Weeds

First off, I’ve got to admit that I wasn’t all that hyped about WitW when it was first announced. I’m not very good at most word puzzles, preferring ones that require analytical thinking skills instead. But I’ve grown to enjoy WitW much more than I ever would have imagined. I think it’s transition into mostly ‘theme based’ sets has a lot to do with it. Kudos to the developers and puzzle contributors on making this a success!
.
It sounds like there might be even more enhancements on the way (more than once a day? :-)). I’d like to throw out a couple of other suggestions for consideration on how to improve WitW as well as provide a place for others to do the same. While I recognize that any modifications are subject to programming requirements (in addition to approval from the powers that be), there’s no harm in asking, right?
.
1) Display words after we solve them so we don’t need to write them down in order to help figure out a theme. Or, at the very least, allow us to somehow view the clues for words we’ve already solved as we go. I can re-solve a word if I know the clue, but I’m at the age where I sometimes not only can’t remember the answer, I can’t remember the clue, either. This was very frustrating before I got into the habit of writing down my answers as I go (the need to do this is a tad annoying in itself).
.
2) Although there are no bonus points given for fastest solves, if I’m fortunate enough to finish in the top five, having my name and avatar posted for all to see is rewarding in a different way. But why only five? List at least the top 10 quickest solvers, and maybe even the top 20 if it can comfortably fit. On the other hand, I don’t see much use for the snapshot of the 5 latest solvers since it’s so transitory in nature. Plus, after the first group of solvers I may not even recognize anyone in later snapshots, so it’s even more meaningless to me. An ideal solution imo would be to display the first 10 solvers while providing the ability to scroll down that list to see all solvers.
