New - Open Box
  • An open-box item looks and feels brand new, although may show very minimal signs of use. Open-box products are often unused returns, or demo models from retail locations that just can’t be sold as “brand new” anymore. Some of the products may have never even been powered on, but have merely been removed from their packaging at some point. As a result, these products are heavily discounted even though you can expect them to function as if they were new.

Open package of Seagate Backup Plus 4TB

This open package item has a big dent on one end. As for the Backup running from what I can tell it ran the backup on my Windows 11.

Excellent hard drive

Ordered this years ago and still works decent. Starting to show signs of wear and tear now so time to order a new one!

One of the best portable HDD I ever had...highly recommended.

Seagate is the brand for me. Its simply reliable.I owned several other brands in the past: Toshiba, western digital, hitachi but Seagate by far is the best of all.The worse thing it can happened to you is having one drive failing on you, and that happened to me with toshiba, wd and hitachi. I lost music, movies and the most valuable of all the data...pictures. I bought this exact model 1 year ago...and its working as the first day. Also in the worse case scenarie the HDD comes with 2 year of warranty (which is 1 year more than most of the other brands)This drive is insanely small and thin, I can put it on my shirt pocket without adding any bulk to it. USB 3.0 offers you lightning speed to transfer anything, so if you're making a backup and the ETA is displayed in hours, forget about that, it won't be happening again with this baby. The design is awesome, it has an aluminum body thats gives you that sense of good quality/build.This drive includes an special offer that provide you with 200Gb of storage in OneDrive, which is nice mainly because these days you may find running out of space on your smartphone. Just keep in mind that there is a limit to redeem the offer (mid 2017)The only thing I personally would like to have...is a carrying bag. Unfortunately this HDD does not come with anything to travel, unlike other brands. So if you're looking for a reliable HDD, give this drive a shot...I'm pretty sure you won't regret.

Excellent Product

I've owned this product since January, 2017. I have intentionally not written a review until now so I could have adequate time to use the product and make a fair assessment. To date the Seagate Backup Plus has performed admirably. It is an excellent product and performs exactly as advertised. I have not used it to back up any mobile devices. I've owned a Lenovo T410 laptop since 2011 and have been running Windows 10 for a little over a year. I've used this external hard drive many times to do backups. The process is scary easy. In general I backup File History which is really loaded up since my laptop is so old. In addition, the backups include my 10K song iTunes library, numerous movies, and many videos. I have done a couple of System Images as well. At present I have more than 900 GB (of the 1 TB) of unused space remaining. I'm hardly an expert on external hard drives but that seems pretty awesome, particularly for such a reasonably priced unit that also happens to be light as a feather. One of the things I noticed in reading external hard drive reviews prior to my purchase is the large number of reviewers who complain about their drives breaking down. So I guess the final quality assessment may not be possible until I've owned the drive longer. Hope this helps someone with their decision making process. This was an authentic purchase and I was not part of any promotional program.

Extremely happy with these drives. Great for backups, media, etc.

Have three of these drives, 2 red ones from 2014 and a blue one recently purchased, and all of them are going strong. They've all been formatted for use on my MacBook, and attached to my Airport Extreme so I can also access them from my Windows 7 laptop. They're primarily accessed from my MacBook, but I can still read/write to them from Windows without having any special software installed. I'm not using any of the software that comes on these drives as I don't have any use for them.* If you buy an external drive and intend to store files on it rather than just use it as a backup, you should have a second one to backup the first one. All drives will fail eventually, and any drive that you store files on that you don't want to lose should be backed up somewhere else. Every file that matters to me is on at least two different drives, and I've never lost any data even though I've had various drives fail over the past 20+ years.* This is not a solid-state drive, so there are moving parts. Once it's plugged in and while its light is on, the drive should not be moved. I've seen a lot of external drives fail instantly after just slight bumps. If the light is on, don't touch it. If you need to be moving the drive while it's in use, you should look into getting a solid-state drive (SSD). I really like the Sandisk ones.

Once again Seagate came through.

I bought the 2 tb in blue. and once a gain Seagate showed me that my money was well spent. light well built quite I'd dropped it on it's edge twice once for the top of my desk and again from about 12 feet. these hard drive are built tough unlike other brands I've wasted my money on like Western Digital. My files I keep backed up are files I'm spent the last 20 years researching and adding new information to almost on a daily bases. So I need a external back up that I can trust to keep my information on. I have friend that tell me I should put everything on the cloud. problem is with clouds they either get hacked or the evaporate and take your files with them. by keeping my files on an external back up I know where they are when I need them. As a music collector I have over 200 gigs of artist tracks in MP3's that you can't get from any one any more even if you try. As a photographer and graphic artist I have room for all 5 million photos and images I have taken or created. as a genealogist I have more than enough room to grow on my external Seagate hard drives. The only con I have ever found with Seagate external hard drives is they like all other hard drive get hot to the touch. So why hasn't someone at Seagate developed a cooling pad similar to the ones used on laptops?
