It is a cell phone and needs cell phone coverage. It does not work without strong cellular coverage. Maybe that is why you still have a landline. I bought two to replace my two land lines. It connects to all 9 cordless phones in my house and I forget it is a cell phone system. My monthly costs for 9 phones dropped over 60%. When copper wires are scheduled to be turned off soon, I have what I want already - savings. My routers have to re-booted weekly. The verge is re-booted every 2 months just to keep it manitained. Any computer needs a re-boot.

Porting process exceeded the quoted max 72 hours (took a full week and only with diligent follow-up on my end). Even when complete, service still cuts out and drops frequently (apparently device needs to be rebooted/reset every 5-10 days, though the lame documentation that came with the unit says nothing about any of this). You will not have any alerts/signals of outages, so you will still be billed for service that includes the random and sporadic downtimes, even when the device remains charged up, connected to power, and in the same location at all times. So, system seems unstable and unreliable at best, and very difficult to connect with a customer advocate who will fully resolve the issues. If you want/need reliable home phone service for emergencies, etc., recommend you look elsewhere.
does not work
Had it for five months, then it quit working. Consumer Cellular spent three weeks over the phone trying to get it working. Never did. It was a great inconvenience. Ultimately I switched phone companies and went with a traditional landline.
