My favorite detector!! I am working on placing these throughout the house as mine expire. (The first one is hitting seven years old shortly; the older models of these only had a 7-year life.) I really appreciate the voice feature which makes it announce its location such as, “Warning! Evacuate! Smoke in Basement!” You pre-program it from a list of pre-set locations (Hallway, kitchen, basement, bedroom, etc.) so when one starts beeping you aren’t running all over the house trying to figure out which one it is if there’s no obvious smoke. (Burned food in the oven, sudden drop in temperature when opening a door near a detector & condensation hits the air inside, construction dust…don’t forget to cover them, and if the sensor gets dirty. They’re unusual circumstances but, when they happen, I don’t like running around trying to figure out exactly where the sound is coming from because they’re loud & the sound carries. Ours just went off at the top of our two-story foyer and our daughter came running up from her basement bedroom where she had her door closed.) **One review mentions that their was chirping upon installation—I don’t know if they had a faulty device, an extremely dirty home at the time of installation (such as construction going on) or something else going on that makes alarms go off, but I hope they gave it some time to set. It is actually not abnormal for a smoke detector to chirp for a short time after having batteries installed or replaced, first being connected to power, or when electricity comes back on after an outage. I hope this isn’t why they left a bad review. I’ve been using a model of this (new model # now vs old one, but exact same profile and features) for eight years and will continue using them for as long as they are available. They are reliable, our fire department says they’re good detectors, and I love the slim design so it isn’t super bulky and obtrusive on my standard-height ceilings. My favorite feature, as mentioned above, is the location announcement. Great product!

This has a 10 year sealed battery. It gave the once a minute low battery chirp upon installation. Says it will give the replacement chirp 120 months after installation. We didn't make 120 seconds... I will be returning it to the store.
