I'm a little unsure about the overall utility of this for common once-in-a-while use. But it would be useful for cases where you are doing a lot of wrapping with many pieces of tape in action. It would also be invaluable for people with the use of only one hand, as you don't have to grip and rip individual pieces of tape.The dispenser comes pre-assembled in a cardboard box with no instructions. It includes two small rolls of tape, which is a convenient bonus for quick setup.The central rollers pop out of the tape wells and you shove them into your roll of tape. Then insert it back into the slots in the tape well. You pull the tape out and across the crossbars of the assembly and tack it down on the farthest. Then you use a pair of scissors (not included) to cut the tape into strips between the crossbars. The strips stay attached to their individual crossbars, waiting to be picked up and used as desired.The unit comprises three plastic compartments that can be collapsed to 6 1/8" long for storage or extended to two different usage lengths of 11 1/8" (two rows of 4 strips) or 16 1/2" (two rows of 8 strips. Cutting between each crossbar results in tape strips of about 1 1/2" in length, but you can certainly skip crossbars to cut longer strips if needed.There are no serration tear edges on any of the crossbars, which means you must use scissors to cut. I found that to be annoying when trying to collapse the thing down for storage. You need to cut near to the tape well compartment and fold the tape down over it to close things up. If any of the tape is still extending out over the crossbars it won't fold up. So if you pull the tape out and don't use all of it on a wrapping job, you'll end up throwing away the extended bit.The overall unit is about 3" high and 3" wide.I will prefer just using the cheap pull 'n rip dispensers for quick convenience in wrapping a single package. But if I do a big wrapping job on a bunch of presents at once, I can see bringing this out.
