The ground connection wears away very quickly causing the flashlight to go out.

I've been using this flashlight for years, and it is still working properly. There is a magnet in the back so that you can stick onto a refrigerator. It is bright and good for emergency.

Like most folks there's never a flashlight that works when you need one. I have a product like this one that I bought at home depot a couple of years ago that just keeps on going these appear to be made by the same company other than these are black not orange like my first unit. The area light is very bright and the single spot light on the tip is also quite useful. I have a couple of these around the house in case the power goes off and it's dark and the nice strong magnet on the back side lets me stick one to the side of the fridge or under the desk where it's out of the way but easy to grab if I need it. My room doesn't have a real bright light in the ceiling so this provides that extra bit of light when I need it at my desk. It uses three AAA sized batteries and when the battery cover is properly closed it is moderately water resistant meaning you can use it in the rain and probably drop it in a shallow puddle and it will survive. My neighbor is a handyman and I gave him several of these he said he dropped one in the pool (with water in it) and it floated and kept on going. At the price of these I've given a few out as gifts and everyone loves them. They are made of plastic but quite sturdy and the power button is covered in rubber one press turn on the tip light, two turn on the area light, third press is off. These are great and they arrive in a plastic box that could find other uses around the house. I can't tell you if they'll work with rechargeables since those tend to be 1.2 V instead of the 1.5 V of disposable batteries. I'd buy a rechargeable version of this if someone sold one for sure.
