Diva is not the only cup!

Ok, so... I had never heard of a menstrual cup before. Zero idea that any alternative to tampons and pads existed. My periods have always been long, HEAVY and plain miserable for me. I've always needed super plus (or ultra) tampons along with a thick pad as backup. I read all these reviews, got really excited, and then took the plunge. First period with this I had a lot of leaking, so I kept resorting to tampons and disposable pads. I was still interested but not "sold" on the cup. During the next month I discovered all about dioxins and rayon in tampons and just how bad they are for you. I always knew "change every 4 hours or you'll get TSS" but the idea that they were SO unsafe had never crossed my mind. That did it for me. I refused to go back. I ordered some cloth pads as backup and for the next period I was all in! Standing and walking with the diva in was fine, but as soon as I relaxed to watch tv or sleep, I could hear a whoosh of the seal breaking and then major leaking. I did some googling about my particular issues and I found a forum for menstrual cups. I was able to find other people that had the same issues with the diva and see what cup had worked for them. Apparently the diva is longer and trickier to use than many cups. I didn't even know there were other options, as the health food stores in my area only carry the diva cup. Everyone that has used a cup will tell you there is a learning curve. You will probably poke yourself in uncomfortable places, you will think the cup is stuck/lost, you will get blood on your hands. Guess what? It isn't as bad as you think it will be! I'm still learning, but this has completely changed my life. I want to shout it from the rooftops! My periods used to be 8 days. 1st month of using only the cup and cloth pads... 5 days. 2nd month... 4 days. I am so much more comfortable with my body now and my period doesn't gross me out anymore. I purchased a Fleurcup and it works so much better for me. I would also recommend sea sponge tampons--something else I didn't know existed. They are so soft and unbelievably easy to use. With both the cup and the sponges I wear cloth pads for security, which I also find amazing and so comfortable. If you're even a little interested please give cups a try... and give it time... definitely worth taking a chance.

Works as it says it does. I had no problem getting it in there but I cramped pretty bad for an hour and it sit hurts to sit in general. Also feels uncomfortable, dry and a bit irritating, when first in. Thinking of trying a dab of lube.

Works well, sometimes leaks with heavy activity

Convienent, a bit messy, only thing that lets me bike on heavy days. Leakage is not unheard of, but frankly not worse than with other methods.

Wise purchase

Getting use to it, maybe tmi but I have heavy cycles and find the need to empty more then most which is not easy at work or public restrooms due to sound and gore factor. I run and lift weights and no issues. Otherwise a wise and happy purchase.

I got this at the recommendation of my stepsister who I trust implicitly. She was absolutely right. I initially had some issues with the twist motion to open the cup totally, but I've got it down. The only downside is if you're in a public bathroom and feel like you need to empty and wash it but feel embarrassed. Otherwise, this is the best!

Give it a chance

Once I got the hang of it I loved it! I work 24 hour shifts and don't always have extra tampons on me to change but with this it's easy to slip in a bathroom and change every 8-10 hours or so.

Cut off the stem

A little uncomfortable at first, but I just ended up cutting almost the whole stem off and you literally can't feel it. I love it. Doesn't fill up at all like you think it would. Best to use a tub when inserting and maybe removing.

A bit tricky to get used to but worth it. I'm 32, 5'9", 135 pounds, with no children, multiple sexual partners (in my lifetime), and this fits very snugly. I wouldn't go by the recommended age. Worth a try if you're tired of tampons. I pair it with THINX underwear for security.
