Uncomfortable upon insertion, probably not great with an IUD

I was super excited to order this and was intrigued at not having to use tampons anymore, but I have to say I am pretty disappointed. I ordered the size 2 as advised since I am 36 and have had two children. I tried it at home yesterday and the insertion is very uncomfortable, as is the sensation of the 'suction' that happens upon insertion. I understand this suction is necessary for it not to leak, but it doesn't feel good. I tried taking it out and literally could feel my cervix hating me. I feel like the discomfort is due to the silicone being quite thick, way more than a tampon. Tried to fold it as tight as possible, as instructed, to reduce its size for easier insertion but it's not possible. Woke up this morning with strong menstrual cramps, more than are typical for me, and I'm hoping I did not accidentally dislodge my IUD when I pulled out the Diva Cup. Not sure what I did wrong... Mind you, I read all the info and asked my OB about the use and everything says it's okay but I regret using it . I probably can't get a refund on it because of the type of item it is, but I regret buying this. Back to tampons for me.

Compare Menstrual Cups Before Purchasing One...

The Diva Cup size 2 is the first menstrual cup I tried. I purchased it based on manufacturer sizing recommendation, comparative price and brand reputation, and customer reviews. What I learned is that a quick google search comparing menstrual cups will go further in helping you to select the right cup for you than amazon reviews and manufacturer size recommendations can. This is because amazon reviews will be based on a reviewer's experience of the product as it relates to their particular anatomy and cycle, which may vary from yours, and because the "over 30 / under 30" manufactuer recommendation is a misleading oversimplification. A google search will yield lots of information on the topic, but I found this site to be particularly helpful as a menstrual cup selection and comparison tool: [...] My experience with the Diva Cup size 2: I am 37yrs old and have never given birth, but I found the Diva Cup 2 to be too large in diameter for my vaginal canal, and too firm, resulting in uncomfortable insertion and an unnecessarily tight fit. I have a very heavy flow, and the DC2 even at 30ml capacity needed to be changed at 7-8 hours for the first 40 of my cycle; this is likely unusual and most will require less frequent emptying. The length did not bother me, as I have an average to high cervix, but if you have a low cervix, you will likely want a shorter cup. I am looking for a cup that is comfortable for a narrow vaginal canal, with greater ease of insertion, but that has a high volume capacity for a very heavy flow. Because my cervix placement is on the higher side I have ordered the Intimina Lily Cup instead. Fingers crossed! I love the concept of menstrual cups for health, environment, and efficiency. I do really like that the Diva Cup has measurement lines, because I am trying to track my flow - not all cups have that.

Disappointed...

After reading so many good reviews I was excited to try it. I got the smallest size they have and after getting it in it was very uncomfortable. I could feel it with every move I made. Maybe it just takes time to get used to...but it was so uncomfortable I had to take it out. When I tried to take it out, it felt like someone was pulling my insides out. Apparently I didn't get ahold of it well enough to get rid of the vacuum it creates...I don't flow to hard to begin with so the discomfort during having it in and the pain while trying to get it out was enough to make me not want to use it ever again. I may attempt it one more time... but it's going to take a while for me to work back up to wanting to try it again.

Wanted to like this product

Wanted to like this product. Love the idea of it. I have pretty heavy periods and this could not hold much liquid. Also if you have carpal tunnel or any kind of wrist pain, this would be hard to get in and out. Maybe this would work well if you have super light periods. Gotta just stick to my overnight pads.

Not right for me

I am new to using menstrual cups and like the idea of not using tampons, pads, and liners. My first cup was the Diva Cup. I gave this a two only because I think this cup just doesn't work well with my anatomy. I'm currently trying other cups and have had better luck. I'm still trying to get down the exact insertion technique that works for me. I think it's a matter of anatomy and figuring out your own body/anatomy. Wish me luck.

May be too long for some people

Inaccurate information is provided about choosing the correct size. The Diva cup is one of the longer cups made and will not fit everyone. Do research and take measurments before purchasing. Cups are fantastic but you have to get the right fit!

Annoying

This seemed so promising.. but honestly I'd rather not fish around in my area just to get this thing in. It's annoying to hold, annoying to fold and really hard to position. Great, it's washable and can be worn longer.. but is it really worth all this trouble? This product claims to be as easy to use as a tampon.. what lies. Did I mention the cramps? Oh yeah, big time. This thing gives me cramps like no body's business. Also I've had the unfortunate issue of it suctioning to my cervix. Not fun. I wish I never bought this and someone told me about these problems. Such a waste of money.

Not for me

I have friends that love this but it wasn't for me. Painful to insert and take out. Watched several how to videos and got advice from friends. I still leaked while wearing it. Maybe there is a trick to getting a good seal, but I never figured it out if so. I wouldn't consider myself someone who gets grossed out easily, but this was gross to empty. I would dread emptying it. Just seemed like a big ordeal and would definitely never do it in public!

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I couldn't get it ...

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I couldn't get it to stay in. I watched several YouTube videos. Maybe I will try it again next month and provide an update. I spoke with a friend that said I may not be pushing it up far enough.

I'm disappointed that I can't use this

I wish there was a larger size. This won't stay in all the way...keeps sliding down and eventually sticks out just enough to rub against underwear and make it uncomfortable to wear. I am in my mid-40s and have had 2 VBACs. I'm only 5'4" and weigh 125lbs. I'm disappointed that I can't use this, but I guess I'm close enough to menopause that it doesn't really matter now... I've put up with tampons and pads for this long! LOL I did by the size #1 for my teenage daughter and she uses it.
