Vanilla Dream

I have to start by saying that I’ve never been much of a coffee drinker, but the older I get, the more I want coffee.  My taste in coffee is light (by use of creamer), unsweetened and the least bitter.  I don’t care for the more popular establishments’ coffee at all, no matter how much cream is added.  As far as flavored coffee, I haven’t found any I liked until I tried Vanilla Dream.I first tried Vanilla Dream using my mom’s newer, high-end machine with the medium size setting and I added a little almond milk in lieu of creamer.  While it smelled divine, the coffee tasted like dirty water.  I dumped it and thought I’d try again on the machine at work.  Since then I’ve only used a new, lower-end machine at work using the small size setting and no creamer.  My experience has been much better. The aroma lingers around the office for most of the day.  The coffee has a light flavor and it’s really smooth – I finally know what that term means now that I experienced it with this coffee.  What I don’t care for is the toffee flavor, which gets stronger as the coffee cools.  I’m not a huge fan of toffee to begin with.  Personally, I’d rather have a lot less toffee, a little less vanilla and let the coffee speak for itself.  I’ve still enjoyed Vanilla Dream, it’s just not what I would describe as my perfect cup.As for the quality of the cups themselves, the plastic does feel a little thinner than other name-brand cups I’ve used.  Still, I haven’t had any trouble with these Vanilla Dream K cups thus far, aside from the weak first cup. I withheld one star because I have to use the small setting to get a good cup.I received a free sample of this product in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

A decent good sampler.

This was a nice sampler and definitely has various ways to explore it. However, I've had better samplers. I felt like this box focused more on the different type of roasts than flavors. I like samplers with lots of variety especially of flavors. My favorite so far is Brooklyn Bean Roastery sampler box. I will, however, consider purchasing Wakey Wakey and Smooth Caffeinator when I'm in need of a light-medium roast coffee.Wakey Wakey: Woah! This is not a shy light roast. More like a medium roast to me. Full bodied. Very fragrant. Flavorful. Quite nutty. Not weak at all. I enjoyed this very much. You'll love this if you love medium roast rather than light. ;)Smooth Caffeinator: Perfectly balanced. Silky and smooth. I hint some floral background notes which lightens things just a bit. Reminds me of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. This is the perfect for your everyday mornings. This is, by all means, my favorite! :D I recommend you to try this if you're indecisive with roasts.Dark and Handsome: A HUGE step from medium roast, no joke. Very smokey, earthy and intense. A tad too bold for my taste. I semi-enjoyed this. I'm just glad I got to try the famous Dark and Handsome. :) This is great if you like French or Italian roast. I don't.Da Bomb: Warning! This coffee will take you over a cliff! I could feel the buzz on my lips! This is definitely double caffeinated. I don't think I've had anything like this. It is extra deep and dark. Extra robust and nutty. Almost grainy. Reminded me of a french press brew. I don't do well with too much caffeine at once nor do I enjoy dark roasts so this is certainly not for me or maybe not for you if you're the same.Vanilla Dream: Toffee flavor with a vanilla background on a light roast base. It's sweet and enjoyable. Almost pecan-like. However, the vanilla was a little lost here. I think the toffee overpowers it all. It's still good, don't get me wrong. Great if you enjoy caramel or even pecan flavored coffee. I was just hoping vanilla to dominate here. <3Choconut: Moderate chocolate flavor with a mild coconut background on a light roast base. Flavorful and fragrant. Wish the coconut was a little more pronounced here. Still good though. Awesome for the chocolate coffee lovers! Add extra sweetener and you'll feel like you're indulging in hot cocoa! For the coconut lovers? I'm afraid you must look elsewhere as the coconut is lost here. :-/

Choconut -Med to light roast, subtle chocolate/coconut flavor, great aroma. Dark & Handsome, Da Bomb = dark roast not bitter

ChoconutI consider this a medium roast coffee....a bit stronger than mild roast, with a subtle, not overpowering, chocolate/coconut flavor. It's very good & has a nice aroma too. Everyone who's tried it has liked it.If you're looking for a strong chocolate/coconut flavor you will be disappointed with Choconut.Dark and HandsomeI consider this to be a dark roast coffee. It does not taste bitter or burned. Even though I prefer light or medium roast coffee, I like Dark & Handsome, but would not choose to drink it on a regular basis because it is dark roast.Da BombIs a dark roast coffee. It does not taste bitter or burned. I consider it to be slightly stronger than Dark & Handsome. Family members who prefer strong coffee, don't consider Da Bomb to be anything special.Of these three flavors, Choconut, Dark & Handsome & Da Bomb, Choconut is my favorite. Keep in mind that I prefer light to medium roast coffee.

Tastes great, but the flavoring is not strong

I like my coffee to be strong in added flavors. This Vanilla Dream coffee is tasty and I like the strength of the brew. However, I have a hard time tasting the vanilla and the butter toffee flavors that are supposed to be in it. Don't get me wrong, I do like it. I would buy it again. I just wish these flavors were more predominant and noticeable. For the current price of $14.99, you receive 24 K-cups. This makes each cup about 62 cents which isn't a bad price. I have paid less, but I typically pay more. The Arabica beans are obvious in the quality and flavor of the coffee. I would be curious to try other flavors from this brand. Overall, it is good coffee and I would recommend it.

Three Coffees, Three Opinions

What I don't like about any of these coffees is that I don't see any free trade or organic information on the packages, I really prefer both of those things. All the pods work well in my Keurig 2.0. It is the nature of the Keurig that it doesn't make quite as strong a cup of coffee as I like. I like to use refillable containers to avoid extra waste, but I do like to keep flavored and various roasts on hand for guests and for variety.Otherwise, my favorite is the Dark and Handsome dark roast. It is rich and deep and flavorful, with just a touch of burnt/smokiness.My second favorite is Da Bomb, the one with lots of caffeine. I like the dark roast and the richness, but it seems to have a bit more bitter taste than the Handsomme one, a bit too much bitterness for me.Everyone's taste is different, but for me, the Choconut is my least favorite of the three. This flavored coffee isn't as flavorful as some others I've tried. The coconut taste comes through more strongly than the chocolate taste. With a flavored coffee, it's harder to tell the quality of the actual coffee minus the flavoring, but this one seems decent - not extraordinary, but good enough.

Smells and tastes great, but with a bitter finish

This is black, no cream and no sugar. Review after 7-8 cups.Scent: 9/10 - the smell of the butter toffee comes through, and especially while brewing smells like the best scented candle ever. This lasts the whole cup.Taste: 8/10 -> 6/10 - Starting off, when its piping hot the vanilla and toffee are basically obliterated. In about 3-5 minutes, the vanilla really overpowers the toffee, but its there if you look for it. You definitely need to not let it get beyond tepid though, because then it seems to become incredibly sharp and acrid. After: 6/10 - After though, the lingering taste of the vanilla flavoring starts off pleasant enough, but it gradually begins to turn very bitter, and unless you wash it away, seems to get gradually worse until it feels like it films your tongue.I might be being harsh, but overall this is the same as a coffee with a shot of syrup. I've had better vanilla syrups. But the smell is wonderful, and the taste is great if you put it all away hot. The aftertaste is what costs it a start.

I got the variety pack

Okay, so on this variety pack (all tasted straight up, Keurig, 10 oz, no cream/no sugar)1. Smooth caffeinator: solid normal coffee flavor. Not too dark, not light, no real flavor. Definitely added creamer on flavor-wanting morning.2. Vanilla Dream: vanilla flavor was pretty good in my experience, though not even across different pods.3. Choconut: honestly, it's a coconut included flavor. It smelled like coconut and the other guy in the office liked it, but I hate coconut. So---I'm not sure if that particular flavor is good or not.4. Dark and Handsome was good. Darker roast taste (obviously) without tasting 'burnt' or overdone.5. Wakey-Wakey: more of a breakfast blend type, at the other end of the dark/light spectrum from Dark and Handsome. I liked it with some creamer more than straight up.Decent value, good mix in the variety pack.

We liked 2 out of 6 blends

I was contacted by the Promotional Manager for Brooklyn Bean Roastery and asked if I'd like to review some of their K-Cup coffees. I agreed and was sent a Java Factory Variety Pack which includes 6 flavors: Da Bomb, Vanilla Dream, Spring Break, Smooth Caffeinator, Choconut, and Dark and Handsome. (*I notice the photo shows 'Wakey Wakey', but I did not receive that item.)I did a taste test of all six flavors using the same 8 ounce, regular strength setting on my Keurig Vue (using a K-Cup adapter). I invited my Mom over to taste test with me. She's a coffee drinker with 60 years experience. Coming from a Swedish background, she likes dark blends (French Roast for example) and often uses the 'strong' setting on the Keurig to get what she likes. By contrast I have been a coffee drinker for only about 20 years, and tend to favor medium roast coffees or flavored dark roast blends.---------------------------------------These are our impressions following that taste test. (I took notes as we went along.)1. DA BOMB - Extra Bold Double Caffeinated: We expected a jolt, like with espresso, but frankly neither of us liked it well enough to finish one cup between us. We got a hint of burned hazelnut in this blend, which we both found surprising - looking at the description there should be no hint of any flavor other than coffee. This blend didn't taste good to either of us.2. CHOCONUT - Chocolate + Coconut Flavored Coffee: In brewing this one you immediately get the coconut scent, which if you like coconut is very pleasing. I like it, my Mom hates it, but I made her try it anyway. In drinking it neither of us picked up any chocolate flavor, as the coconut was too overpowering. I added some cream to my cup and it made it a more enjoyable beverage, but I think the basis for this is a medium or light roast and for me it would have been better if the base coffee was a darker blend. I never could sell this one to mi madre!3. SPRING BREAK - Coconut + Rum Flavored Coffee: A medium roast coffee with a bitter finish, this tasted somewhat like a bad hazelnut coffee. Neither of us liked this blend.4. VANILLA DREAM - Vanilla + Butter Toffee Flavored Coffee: Based on the name I would have expected to get a scent of either butter or vanilla when it was brewing. I really got neither. In tasting it there was definitely something to this smooth, medium blend coffee with a pleasant finish, but for us it was probably more 'nut of some kind' versus vanilla as the name would suggest. It was OK, but not what we'd have expected.5. SMOOTH CAFFEINATOR - This is a medium roast coffee that we both agreed hit the mark! It's great. An enjoyable cup with a smooth finish, and and on par with its product description. We'd actually buy this one.6. DARK and HANDSOME - This dark roast is true to its product description as well. My mother loved it stating: "Now THAT'S COFFEE!" I thought I could work with it if I added enough of a flavored creamer, but it was agreed we'd buy this one too.-----------------------------------In conclusion, I think this well priced variety pack will please many Keurig coffee drinkers, but I wouldn't recommend all of the options based upon my informal taste test.My mother and I really liked Smooth Caffeinator for an anytime cup o' Joe, and agreed Dark and Handsome would be a great choice for lovers of French Roast, but Da Bomb didn't explode our excitement enough to want to drink it and we left Vanilla Dream and Choconut on the beach disappointed in Spring Break.Normally I would give a product a '3' if I thought it was OK, but I didn't really like it. This sort of a variety pack is tougher to rank because of the 'variety' aspect. I am boosting the star rating to a '4' as the two we did like, were very good and all the pods worked as expected in the brewer. My advice: know what kind of coffee you prefer and choose based upon those preference. I'd have to say I was excited about 'coconut', but didn't like it in these coffees. I also thought Da Bomb would be great, but was disappointed. Is that just me? I guess you'll have to read some reviews and decide if this one is right for you.-----------------------------------NOTE: The product was provided by the seller to me in exchange for my honest review.
