Great Fun for a 5-Year Old

My 5-year old loves this game! He is really into the ninja turtles right now, but this game is also very age-appropriate for him. He can do almost everything in the game on his own, but it's a step up from the video games he's played before, particularly on LeapPad. Some of the math questions are a little much for his age, but I like how LeapPad games respond to your child's abilities by making questions easier or harder - and he's asking me more math questions, which is a great thing! This game uses ImagiCards, which is a collection of cards that interacts with your LeapPad to bring more characters to your games. For our family, this was not really impressive. As a mom, I knew right away that I'd be finding cards all over the house, although a nice metal tin is available to hold cards. My 5-year old wasn't interested in the cards at all. He said the games already had pre-loaded cards, so he didn't care to use them in the games. He did use the cards for other, non-LeapPad, activities, though. :) This review contains only my opinions. LeapPad provided the LeapPad Platinum and games for my review.

Booyakasha!

This was a great choice for my ninja turtle lovin' five-year-old! He was able to maneuver through the levels almost independently. I also tried out a couple levels he'd already completed and was impressed with a few opportunities to problem-solve/strategize. I found the math to be an appropriate level and was happy with the intro. of fractions! The only reason I gave it 4 stars was I think he completed all the levels #16# within a couple weeks. Wish there were more levels. However, we found out the hard way, you can erase all the work you saved and start from scratch!

Best for 6+

I recently received the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Imagicard Learning Game digital app at no cost for review purposes and the game was a bit too complicated for my 4yo daughter. I love that it encourages teamwork, but both my 4yo and 6yo were a bit confused about how to get all 4 characters moving through the game. No doubt with time my 6yo son will become a pro, but it wasn't as intuitive as most LeapFrog games we've enjoyed. (There are no TMNT fans in our house either, so the incentive wasn't there the way it might be for a real fan.) We didn't have the Imagicards while reviewing for this game, but we did for another game. I originally thought they seemed redundant, but appreciate that they allow for offline play and encourage kids to turn away from the screen. I also love the metal tin...most card boxes in our house end up trashed in no time. This makes them a bit less of a clutter/loss hazard.
