Update: I have owned this watch for almost a year now, and I have to say it is my every day watch! I own many other watches, but this one is my "go-to" watch. It has been extremely accurate, exceptionally water proof and still looks like new! I ended up purchasing another one when they went on sale a few months ago. I highly recommend this watch for anyone looking for a solid, reliable, well built, hassle free dive watch! Original Review: I currently own several other quartz divers (Seiko, Wenger, Bulova Tauchmeister, Casio, etc), but I have been eyeing this Citizen for some time now. Finally got it and this is what I think about it so far. Size: while it is only 42mm, it looks a bit bigger because of its flat design. The strap size is 20mm, not 19 like the product description reads. Lume: Nice blueish glow on the circular markers. The lume does not last nearly as long as the lume on my Seiko divers. Doesn't glow as bright as the lume on my Seikos either. However, not bad compared to the lume on my other non-Seiko divers. Strap: Cute for people with small wrists, but doesn't do justice to the watch. I immediately replaced it with a stainless steel super engineer Miltat strap. I have both the engineer and super engineer stainless steel straps, but the super engineer matches this watch perfectly! Quality Control: Second hand doesn't match up perfectly with the second markers on the dial, but I fiddled with it while hacking and got them to line up a bit better (still not perfect). Also, I noticed a tiny, hairline scratch (barely noticeable) on the bezel at the 30 mark. No biggie. Bezel does have a tiny bit of play, but no more than my Seikos or Orients. Presentation: Definitely the best presentation box of any watch I have ever purchased! It came in a mini scuba tank. Absolutely perfect for a gift! Other: Not a fan of the painted bezel; I will most likely scratch it within a week or two. Screw down crown screws in a bit too easily. Hopefully it will be as water resistant as I expect it to be. Didn't come with clear tape over the crystal or the case back. I really hope this was not a returned item as Amazon has done to me before. I would give it a 4.5, but that's not possible with this rating system. So, it gets a 4 for now. I'll revisit this review after I own it for a few months.

This watch has shown up in my feed many times, but I've never pulled the trigger. I received a early black Friday notification of special pricing on this watch, and I just couldn't pass it up. I'm really glad I jumped on this one! Classic dive watch style- Everything you would expect in a dive watch; 200m water resistance (These are ISO 6425 rated), extreme legibility (note the orange minute hand), 60 click Unidirectional bezel (solid) and a nice vented rubber strap (they even print ND Depth/time limits on the strap). The eco-drive technology means this watch will not need a battery change for over 2 decades, and accuracy is excellent. On my example, the second hand hits the indices dead on. It's a big watch across at 43+mm, but wears much smaller. The bezel even tapers smaller as it gets closer to tge crystal. For a sub 200m Solar powered ISO rated dive watch, you really can go wrong!! Plus, it's beautiful!!

This review is updated after 2 years of use. Promaster was bought as a backup watch to dive up to 100m. So far only to 40m. I currently use an Ecodrive BJ2000-09E as a daily diver, it lasted 13 yrs before the battery needed replacement, with over 1500 dives on it, and its now 21 years old, going strong with the new type or rechargeable battery and 500 more dives. Most important on this watch is the face is big, simple and easier to see underwater, particularly the lume, even in very bad viz. As an ISO dive watch, its better priced and better built, superior to the Seiko SKX007, which should be retired. Although the movement is Japanese, no where on the box or papers does it say were the watch is actually made. I hear the body is milled and watch assembled in China. The body is machined just a tad rough compared to my Japanese BJ2000-09E EcoDrive I use for diving, this promaster is its backup. My two Ecodrive keep better time than other quartz watches, so adjust time only during daylight saving, it will be accurate to < +3 min in 8 months, if first set accurately to NIST time each time. Alas, adjusting date is needed from 30 or 31 as the months fall. This is after 2 years of use. The bezel is tighter than the BJ2000-09E, which I like better underwater, at times I can bump the bezel of the BJ2000-09E enough to rotate it, but so far not on this watch, but it is harder to turn with cold gloves on. The base straps on citizen divers are quality and last >15 years diving, not the resin on Casios which deteriorate < 3 years. The Promaster strap shows no aging at all. If replacing straps buy spring bars too, just in case. Springs in spring bars could rust or foul, they may not spring back after compression, you can remove it, but not replace it. After replacement the spring bar should last at least as long as the next time you remove them. Only con is the excessive juvenile packaging the watch comes with. A toy plastic scuba tank, in a cardboard box, all will go to landfill. I'd rather have the price reduced even more and this ship without a box than all the bling it came with that does absolutely nothing to enhance this watches function.

A Citizen ECO-Drive movement on a dive watch eliminates the frequent need for replacing batteries and the potential for a bad seal. Unlike the majority (or all ?) of Automatic movements the quartz is more accurate without need of constant movement or winders to keep it functioning. As long as there is light my experience with Eco-Drive's is that we are talking in the range of a decade before the back seal is broken for a battery or capacitor replacement. For the price of admission you will not find a comparable dive watch then this version of Citizen's light driven Promaster Pro Diver. The only picky flaw that I find worthy of comment is the cheap blue polyurethane band with a tacky and non-essential Non-Decompression table on the side of the band. Most sport divers will find this feature useless. Fortunately, the band is easily replaceable with a NATO style nylon band or steel bracelet worthy of this watch to make it even better looking with a bit of personalization. The date only window in the 4 O'clock position is a bit small and sometimes requires a bit of squinting and wrist twisting to decipher. The lume is acceptable for this price point. In my experience, the overall build, looks and function of this watch eclipses many of the high-cost, big name diver's watches who cannot seem to make the hands line up with the indexes correctly or keep time as well. This one is spot on. Highly recommended for surface dwellers and casual sport divers wanting a high quality watch with great looks at a low cost. It is an unbeatable bargain for those seeking a first-rate traditional diver's watch with a bit of modern technology.

I have been looking for an everyday watch that looks good, and this fits the bill. I am a facility manager so I need something durable enough for the blue-collar work and nice enough for meetings with executives and engineers. I had been looking at automatics, Ray II and SKX, but I wasn't thrilled over worrying about maintenance on them and it seems the accuracy is also a problem. I want a watch I can put on and not have to worry about it. I have always heard good things about the EcoDrive line and I decided to give it a shot. i have an 6 1/2" wrists so i was a little worried about the 44mm case size. Don't worry about it at all, it doesn't wear as big as its size suggests that it would. Given my sub 7" wrist, the band on it it too big for me, too much excess strap soI did decide to purchase a stainless steel braclet. Looks good. In fact it's dressy enough to wear with a sport jacket on a date with my wife. The lume lasts a good long time. i can put it on my nightstand before bed and it is still readable 5-6 hours later. My only complaint is the size of the calendar window, i wish it were either bigger or it had a cyclops. The date is difficult to read. I have a watch liking co-worker that commented about it. He really liked the scuba tank packaging. I've only had the watch a few weeks butI am very happy with my purchase. Durable, good looking, accurate, and maintenance free; what more could I ask for. Now I'm looking at EcoDrive chronographs...

Rugged watch...yes its mineral crystal so buy a cheap peel and stick lens guard like for the cell phones.....remember mineral Crystal can take impacts better than sapphire....accuracy is spot on......yes there is no swiss watch prestige but do you really want to pay that much more for a swiss automatic watch? For that swiss watch to have similar accuracy and water resistance specs to catch up, you would have to wear it for significantly much longer time since it will cost so much more and I really doubt that any swiss watch will make it without expensive service or repair costs to the automatic movements and if that similar performance spec swiss watch is close in price to this.......buy it..... Remember there was a time that Lexus was not respected to compete against the Germans.....now Lexus is hailed the king in resale value, cost of maintenance and reliability......... The negative is the back side has a symmetrical slight creases that was polished heavily by the factory....automation wearing down in production marks?.....is this an issue....no just a reminder this was only 139 bucks........timex prices..... The other negative is the rubber band is not as comfortable as those from technomarine......which only offer battery operated chronograph (frequent battery changes needed) or automatics at least double the price and no where near the accuracy of quartz.....but hey if you enjoy adjusting the time weekly or at most monthly go for it.....to compare this 139 dollar watch to the omegas and rolexes is just ridiculous...
Life is an Adventure
Have you ever had something that worked so well, that you loved so much, that you bought a spare in case something happened to the first one? This is exactly what happened when I purchased and wore Citizen’s Eco-Drive Promaster Diver. I don’t expect anything to happen to the first one I bought, (with a black dial) it’s practically indestructible, but when I saw the same watch that I fell in love with came in a beautiful blue color… I was sold. Adventure awaits you each day when you strap the Promaster on your wrist. With an ISO-certified 200 meter water resistance, this Citizen can handle whatever you throw at it. While most of these watches will probably never see water outside of the sink or an occasional trip to the swimming pool, I have proudly worn the Citizen Promaster Diver fresh water SCUBA diving, snorkeling, and while swimming in lakes. The screw-down crown and well build stainless steel case make this watch more waterproof and shockproof than I would ever need, and that’s a beautiful thing. The dark blue dial on the watch is a flat color, not distracting from the beautiful indices. The shiny dark blue aluminum 60 click uni-directional bezel is attractive, and doesn’t have any play or wiggling back and forth. The blues on the bezel and on the dial are different, but complement each other. I think this is a good touch, as it gives the watch some depth. The hour indices are lumed, and outlined with a shiny silver boarder. The syringe style hour hand is outlined in an attractive silver metal, and the arrow style minute hand is outlined in dark orange, allowing you to immediately distinguish the difference, and quickly tell the time. The all while second hand is thin, and unobtrusive as it dances around the dial. The date window is framed in white, and is located at the 4 o’clock position, perfectly aligned with the crown, which pleases my eye. Speaking of the crown, this was the first watch I owned that has the crown at the 4 o’clock position rather than at the 3 o’clock, and I must admit, I am a big fan. I spend more time than I care to admit tripping over things. Stairs, rocks on trails, cleats on boat docks, children’s toys on the floor where I least expect them…my hands and wrists stop me from hitting the ground at least once a day. When I wear a watch with the crown at 3:00, I am often rewarded with pain when that crown jabs into the back of my hand. I simply don’t have that problem with the crown placed at 4:00! The strap that comes with the watch is fine, and works well for diving. Many people will not see a need to change straps, but the neutral design of the watch makes it a strap monster, meaning that it looks good with whatever you put on it. I am a big fan of NATO style nylon straps, and rotate through different colors depending on my outfit or my mood. This watch is extremely accurate. I own several watches with Citizen’s Eco-Drive movement, and there are several reasons that I keep coming back for more. This watch is as accurate as any quartz watch I have ever owned. I reset my watches when Daylight Savings Time comes and goes, and this watch is never off more than a few seconds from when I set it six months before. Unlike most other quartz watches, the Eco-Drive movement is solar powered, and does an amazing job. With this watch, you don’t have to worry about changing batteries every year or two. Wearing this watch outside for one day a week is enough to keep it “charged” up and ready to go. If you store the watch on top of a dresser where it gets some sunlight, you won’t ever have to worry about the power reserve. If you are like me and wear watches on rotation, this Eco-Drive powered watch will work for you. On a full charge, you can store the watch in a dark drawer for more than 6 months without it missing a beat. Simply wear it in the sun for a few days or leave it under a lamp to charge back up. The lume on the Citizen Promaster Diver is impressive. When “charged” with a bright light (like the light on my phone) it will glow intensely for about five minutes, then fade to a level where you can read the time in darkened for about six hours. I love this watch, it and its black dial brother are on my wrist at least four days a week. If you are looking for an affordable watch that will work flawlessly wherever life’s adventures may take you…look no further. This is the watch for you.

Citizen quality is superb! The blue on the dial and bezel is that ball-point ink blue. It is hardly distinguishable from black. I mean, I placed the nato strap I had on my black version of this watch, on the blue one. My wife never noticed the difference. Heck, I could hardly tell the difference. This is a very dark blue watch dial and bezel. The watch is tough. I dropped it about 4 ft onto a hard surface while changing the strap. It hit with a thud! I expected to find a cracked crystal and hands floating freely inside the watch. Not one scratch, and everything is working fine. Citizen is quickly becoming my favorite brand. The several that I own, all land on the tick marks with the seconds hand. It looks and feels like a quality watch!

This is my first Citizen watch that I have owned. I bought this to replace a digital heart monitor watch that I was tired of wearing as my everyday timepiece. I had heard of Citizen quality and after having owned both Seiko and Pulsar watches, I decided to try Citizen. What a product! For a watch that doesn't have a battery, this thing keeps time to the second. It's simple presentation with just a date window and rotating elapsed time bezel is really all that's needed to time anything. No glare from the crystal and the lume is super nice lasting all night on my nightstand. I get comments on how nice it looks and I look foreword to checking the time just so I can look at it. The band is the only complaint I have. It's OK and gets the job done, but can be a little uncomfortable as it is stiff and a bit long for my narrow wrist. I will change this band for sure. I chose the blue presentation on this one. Overall one of the best watches I own and my favorite. Very impressed and you will too.

It's a nice watch. I am happy with it. But thankfully I was not specifically looking for a large watch. The item description says it is a 48mm watch, and that is incorrect. It has a slanted bezel, so the bottom measures 44mm, and the top measures 42mm. It wears as a 42mm watch. That puts it in a smaller class than a 48mm watch. Beware of that. It does not wear like a large format watch. It looks like a regular size range man's watch. If that is what you want, I recommend it. In a field of Citizen/Invicta, Etc... they all start to look alike. But this watch is a unique combination of design elements and colors and stands out in a good, classy way. Blue color band is not obnoxious. Could be mistaken for black outside of full light. Looks bright blue in the sun. Back of the watch is comfortable on the wrist. No odd design elements that poke or pinch. Buy it, but expect a 42mm watch.
