I wish it worked

I was excited to get this pump. easy to bring to work. unfortunately it gets about half the volume that my spectra gets. there isnl not much suction and the backflow membrane always detaches

Medela Swing Maxi

I really wanted to love this pump but after less than 2 months, it randomly started turning off during pump sessions. It would sometimes work for 30 seconds, and other times cut off after 15 minutes. I used it on average about 3 times per day. I am giving 3 stars because I did really love the portability of this pump!

Needs work

Not powerful enough. It made it really hard to keep up with pumping. I liked how portable it was but it's just not enough on it's own.

Meh

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this pump as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I was excited to try it as I had used a medela pump with my first child a few years ago and wanted to see what improvement they had made (I selected a different pump for my second child). First the good: 1. It is compact - the pump itself is small and fits easily into the backpack that is provided. 2. It is compatible with the other medela products ( which was important because I needed to use my old 27mm flanges from my other pump as I became raw after 2 sessions). 3. It is quieter than my old pump. 4. The battery lasted 3 sessions and charges with a USB-c cable. Now the not so good: 1. It only came with the 21mm and 24mm options, so had I not already had the 27, I would have had to purchase them. It would be nice if medela would give you the option. 2. I pumped less milk with this pump ( an ounce or 2 per session). 3. It's quiet, but not as quiet as my current pump. 4. I could only do 3 pumping sessions without charging the battery, where I can do 2 days (8-10 sessions) with my current one. 5. I have to use a traditional pumping bra instead of a nursing bra In conclusion, it's a great option, especially if you already have a medela pump, but it wasn't the best option for me.

Easy to use but not enough settings

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Right out of the gate I liked most of the design of this pump. It’s easy to assemble, charge, and use. However, it’s missing a huge component of being able to move freely about.. a hook. It has a small loop but honestly it’s pretty pointless because you can’t attach it to anything. I’m not sure what the thinking was behind this design because though the pump itself is small and easily portable, it still requires to be held while moving around which I think really takes away from an A+ design. I suppose hands free wasn’t the goal of this one. I also was underwhelmed with the output it gave. Even on the highest setting I got nothing. I had to use the letdown function every time. This was really disappointing because I was really hopeful. Originally I liked the simplicity of there not being a ton of buttons but the more I used the pump, the more I realized how much I missed them. I also found the app to be less than desirable. If I don’t have it open the entire time I’m using the pump, it disconnects. It’s also completely manual so you still have to put in the oz pumped each time. I just wish it were a bit more advanced and intuitive. Overall, this wasn’t the pump for me. I received this breast pump from the Stellar Product Testing Panel.

Freedom at last

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thank you to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with the Medela Swing Maxi and allowing me to have some freedom while pumping. One of the things I dread most about pumping is being tied to the wall for an amount of time that I really don't have to spare, but this pump solves that problem. It was very easy to wash and set up. The flanges had a flexible ring around the outside that was comfortable against my skin. The entire system is small enough to throw into any bag, simple to use and is great for road trips. However, I did not find that this pump had enough suction, resulting in poor collection. I also wish it had came with some sort of lanyard or clip to attach to the loop on the pump so that I felt more mobile.

More freedom still has room for improvement

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Medela swing maxi, is an improvement on the Pump and Go Medela pumps. I received the Swing Maxi as a part of the Stellar Product Testing panel. It allows you to be free from the wall, chargers quickly, and uses a universal charging cable. It is not silent, but much quieter then the pervious model. It also has very good suction, which can be a challenge with pumps not attached to the wall. Unfortunately, it is not as practical as it could be. It uses the old flanges and requires a special bra. The flanges underneath your clothing are comber some and the pump does not come with a clothing clip. It is a bit too large to put in your pocket, so you have to hold it by that tie. I also found that when I cleaned the parts, often times water would get into tubing. Over all, it is a vast improvement to the pump in style and allows more freedom to move around, but is not as practical as it could be.

Not quite portable enough

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was sent this pump to test via the Stellar Product Testing Panel and was super excited to see Medela offering an on-the-go pump. But once opening the box I was a little disappointed at it being just another battery operated pump. The design is quite sleek and is definitely portable for pumping when away from home but, it still has tubes and is not as portable as I’d like particularly with 2 other kids running around. The Maxi Swing does have great suction and is comfortable, quiet and easy to operate. It also doesn’t have a lot of small parts so is easy to clean. I also love that it is a closed system so there is no concerns about bacteria growing in the motor.

Small but big noise

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got a chance to try this breast pump through the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I have some loves and some dislikes after using this pump for about three weeks, here we go: -The pump is quite small, small enough to fit in the palm of my hand and has a fabric loop that helps with portability. The battery is built in! -The pump came with two different size flanges-so awesome when you're just starting out and don't know what size to use, your nipples are changing, or you're like me and need two different sizes after a year of pumping because you have two different size nipples! Thanks, Medela for including these right out of the box!! The shape and the silicone edges of the flanges are super comfortable compared to the standard non-oval, hard plastic ones, too. -Automatically moves from stimulation/letdown phase into expression phase, very convenient for Sleepy Mommies and middle of the night pump sessions. -New design and colors of the pump and parts are so sleek and good looking. A+ on aesthetics to the design team on looking less like a medical device and more like a high-end electronic device. -This is the loudest pump I've ever used and I've had the privilege of using seven (7) different brands and types including classic plug in the wall, battery powered, portable, and 100% hands free in bra cordless styles. I pump at night in my bedroom now since the little one outgrew the bassinette and had to move to the crib in the other room. Now I pump next to my husband and this woke him up in the middle of the night because it's so loud. -My biggest frustration with the new pump design, however, is the design of the new parts. The new parts are 100% specific to Medela and cannot be substituted with other brands or manufacturers. I find this frustrating because my old adapters to wide mouth bottles do not fit in the new flange-to-bottle part and my kiddo is super picky about bottles and nipples so this is a huge disappointment. The new flange-to-bottle part is also really hard to clean. There are so many nooks and crannies for milk to get onto that have to be scrubbed if you work in an office and can't wash your parts until you get home and then your milk dries on the pump parts. The tubing is also short and not interchangeable with any other pump parts that I've used before. (I'm pretty sure it doesn't even fit with the new Medela Pump in Style which I received through my insurance). I'd like to see these pumps use universal pump parts and "play nice in the sandbox" within the brand and with other pump brands. Pump parts are expensive!! I'd like to see pump parts be more interchangeable.
