easy to set up, stays rooted with included stakes

The media could not be loaded. This is a shelter designed to protect people from sunlight in outdoor situations. The shelter comes in a long pouch with a handle. It is very light and quite compact for it's size (it's about the size of a yoga mat). The folded shelter plus two plastic bags with poles/stakes are in the pouch. The bags are made of the same material as the bottom of the shelter (a tarp-thickness, woven plastic material which is thick). This allows you to push the stakes back into the carrying bag without risk of puncturing the carrying bag from the slightly pointy tips of the stakes - I felt this was a nice design touch which showed insight into a potential problem. The larger bag has the support poles and the smaller bag has four "stakes" with metal bends in them so they are like handles. They are neither super thick nor thin and are strong enough to push into regular soil (and certainly will work in sand). My shelter held up easily in moderately windy conditions with these stakes alone. The support poles are the collapsible sort that fold over and "snap" together by inserting one rod into another with all rods being connected by a bungee cord. This allows them to fold up for storage and to come together into very long poles. When they are folded, it looks like a lot of short poles, but it's actually only 3 long ones so set up involves only inserting and staking them. That is part of what makes it so simple. I'm not practiced or proficient at setting up tents, but I had no trouble with this aside from my apprehension at the amount of bend I had to put into the two poles that form the curved back of the "clam shell." You need to insert them into plastic tabs in both the front and back and it requires some arching of the poles. I was worried that I'd damage the poles by bending them so much, but all went well. The poles did not snap or bend (and I checked for bending when I took the shelter down - they were still straight) despite the tension I had to put on them. Other than making sure the silver metal tips of the areas where the poles came apart didn't catch in the edges of the fabric slots, assembly was super smooth. The shelter is big enough for two adults to comfortably sit in side by side. I am 5' 4" and the tallest part of the opening came up to my chin so only children could stand in it. The material is lightweight, but sturdy. It isn't a tent, however, so don't expect it to be as thick as a conventional (and more expensive) full tent. The thickness was similar to that of a good umbrella fabric. The floor is certainly strong enough for sitting on, but I wouldn't wear shoes in it aside from flat sandals or flip-flops. It is clearly not designed for heels or boots with any sort of sharpness in terms of walking on the tarp-like bottom. My tent was perfectly constructed in terms of the stitching and fabric. There were no rips, tears, frays, or uneven seams. All of the slots for the poles took the pressure exerted on them without strain so they seem to be designed to accommodate them well. The plastic tabs for staking also were securely attached and more than thick enough to hold the poles and small stakes. There is a little window in the back which is covered by a flap that is held down by Velcro or that can be rolled up to allow some light or air through the back if desired and a pocket on the side which I imagine is there to hold something. Many of these types of items have a pocket to roll up the item and store it in, but the pocket is far too small for that. At the time that I received this product for testing, the instructions for assembly were not included in the bag, but only appeared here on Amazon's sales page. I contacted the manufacturer about this as I felt it was not a good idea to fail to include printed instructions with a product designed for outdoor use as most people would not have access to the Amazon page (or want to look it up). They assured me that future shelters will be shipped with a printed set of instructions as they took my suggestion to heart. You can print out and use the instructions from the sales page (that is what I did), but I am giving this 5 stars based on their assurance that instructions will be included for others in the future. I was happy with the quick response for support that the manufacturer gave me and their positive reaction to my suggestion. Though it doesn't state that it is waterproof, I did find that it seemed to repel small amounts of water when I poured some on it. I cannot vouch for how it'd hold out in extended wet conditions, however. I just poured a bit of water on it as a quick test so it'd hold out for a short time while you gather up your things and take the shelter down if it was starting to rain. Taking it apart was simple. By folding up the tent long ways and then into thirds, I could roll it back up and get it back in the bag without issue. Note: I received a free sample of this product for my assessment.

So far, so good.

My daughter uses this partial shelter on the beach when she plays in beach volleyball tournaments. She sets it up next to her canopy. She likes it and says that it sets up and disassembles easily. She has experience setting up tents and such because we are a camping family, so no hangups there. It gets windy at the beach at times and she just helps anchor down the sunshade with coolers and bags. It is small enough to leave in the trunk of her car.

Stay cool, feel the breeze, but get out of the wind and too much sun, while enjoying the view of the ocean or the lake

This cabana is perfect for camping, not primarily as a tent, though you could use it as a tent on a warm night. It's perfect for use at the beach - the ocean or a lake, when it's too sunny to be exposed to the sunlight for those of us that are not genetically designed for more than 10 minutes of exposure. The windows and the front opening allow the cool breezes to flow through, and it's large enough to put a couple of beach chairs inside. You can enjoy looking out onto the lake or the ocean without sand blowing in your face or getting fried by the rays of the sun. My dog enjoys snoozing in the tent while the sea breeze keeps him cool. It's very easy for one person to put up, as well.

Love it!

Can't wait to use this. Bigger than I thought. I'm optimistic that it will be great at the beach. Set up easy once I got the feel for where things went. Came apart easy too and went back into the bag well.

Large but packs small for travel

I need a portable beach tent to take with us to Hawaii and this one is just perfect. It packs light and small. When I set it up, I was surprised at how much bigger it was than I thought. I'm a little worried about the small windscreen - I wish it was all around or bigger just in case it's windy at the beach but we'll see how it holds up.

Big enough

I purchased this because I need some shade at a location I will be at with one of my dogs. This is ample big enough for one 30x28 in crate and normal sized ice chest, my big chair and a small table. Very easy to put up. When it arrived I opened it to make sure it was all there, I sat on the bed and put it together. Plenty big enough. Will be perfect for what I want.

Great size, can easily fit two full size chairs

Great size, can easily fit two full size chairs, easily sets up with one or two people and is just as easy to put away (I recommend setting it up at home first just to be familiar with the process). Sand shakes right off, no issues with light winds, we've used it at our local lake and in Maine. Great purchase!

Light, compact and sturdy

I have not used on the beach yet but I did set it up in my living room to make sure I won't run into any issues. It did not come with any instructions but as long as you have set up a tent before or have seen a tent setup before it's easy to figure out. It's pretty light and compact which is one reason I decided to get this one. Time will tell if it's really as sturdy as it looks but I have high hopes.

I have been looking for a beach tent for a while, and this one meets my need. It is not that easy to set up when you use it for the first time. But you will get the clue after one use. Enough room for my husband and my little one. The sun pretection is good. The open side also allows enough air flow. Overall i’m Happy with the purchase.

Perfect choice

This is perfect for the beach and a nice size. It was so easy to put up and take down. It also rolls up nicely to put away and is very light weight. It held up to the Outer Bank's winds which was a true test so I give it five stars.
