Gut gedacht, schlecht gemacht.

Big fail, can't find my Android phone with Tile

The app won't stay running for more than a few hours so the Tile can't contact the phone. I've turned the 'battery saving' off for the Tile app and it still won't stay running. The Help within the Tile app doesn't address this at all (most people won't know what 'battery saving' is) and there's no way that I can find a way to contact Tile Tech Support within the app. IT DOESN'T WORK AND THERE'S NO SUPPORT!

Not reliable

I was really excited to get these because I am always losing my phone! Unfortunately, works only about half of the time. The double tap does not always work and is frustrating. Works well for finding keys through phone.

Unreliable

These look good and are loud enough when they work. However, when they work is the problem. They are very unreliable, even at very short distances.

400ft, you must be joking!

400 foot range, that's a laugh. I actually find this new Tile Pro has worse range than the original Tile Mate i had. I am lucky to get 10 feet away before it loses it. I had it attached to my dog and it get off whilst walking. I did find it by retracing my steps but I literally had to be standing on top of it before it would connect and start ringing. Would love to see actual evidence of their claim!

Poor connections, paywalled basic functions

They look ok and the replaceable battery is a bonus, but already I am regretting purchasing these things. I have had them about 3 hours as I write this. Bought a pack of 4 Pro Tiles. Paired them with no issue. However, during this process I was pestered on multiple occasions to "upgrade to Premium get the most out of your Tile." 'Premium' gets you things like warnings when your Tiles go out of range and "access to a community of users that can help you locate your lost items." And there the real problems begin... 1. You have to register an account, whether you go Premium or not. 2. You are nagged continuously to turn on location services access at all times. Not only does this use phone battery, you personally are being tracked by the app, even though if you are not subscribed to Premium. Just take a look at the attached photo for the list of intrusive snooping. Why does it need access to my financial, health, contacts, purchase data, etc??!! 3. The app says there are 370 users in my area that could help me find lost items, but as they would need to be within about 10m of the Tile in order to locate it, the chances are probably non-existent of an 'accidental find. Especially as half the area covered is the other side of the River Thames to where I live! 4. I was 3m away in my house with only one of those cheap hardboard and paper doors between myself and my keys, and they had apparently been "Out of range" for 11 minutes. 5. I placed the 4 Tiles in the four corners of the house, downstairs. I live in a modern house that has no real internal walls in it. Two floors and stud walls only. If I go into any of the corners upstairs, I can locate the Tile below me and possibly one or two of the others, intermittently. 6. Did I mention the intrusive personal tracking and overreaching T&Cs? 7. I've already annoyed my other half with accidentally triggering the beeping of the Tile attached to my keys once I dumped them in my handbag. Oh, and I managed to set off the Ring My Phone feature when putting the key into the car ignition slot while seeing how much 'dangle noise' there was when driving. (The hard cover does increase the noise a little, but I felt was insignificant) 8. The battery covers come off easily and I'm not sure that if you did drop your keys outside, and it rained, that water would not easily find its way into the electronics or battery bay and render the Tile useless before you get a chance to utilise it. 9. Cheap case construction, but the anchor is a sturdy aluminium plate: not plastic. So that's a really good feature. 10. Obtrusively large construction. Am quite disappointed with this purchase. The intrusive nature of the personal tracking, coupled with basic features being behind a Subscription Paywall, and intermittent connection issues, make this a deal-breaker for me. I only decided to buy these units over the Apple ones because I felt that I wanted to support a manufacturer other than Apple. A bit of competition is often good for the customer. I wish I had not bothered. I've bought a set of the Apple AirTags instead. They will probably have issues of their own, but at least Apple are less intrusive when it comes to privacy. (EDIT: the AirTags have issues of their own, like the ridiculous price of the holders [starting at £35!] and the quietness of the beeper, but the smaller size and the quality of the locator app - gives distance and an arrow of location - is far superior. Review to follow) Good points - 1. VERY LOUD location beeper! 2. Sturdy aluminium mounting point. 3. Community find option (sadly paywalled). 4. Price of tiles. 5. Long battery life. 6. User-replaceable battery. 7. Useful Find Phone feature (even when phone on 'Silent'). 8. Competition to Apple. Conclusions: Overall feeling - disappointed. Could be so much better. Intrusive personal tracking, paywalled features, and unnecessary data access were the killers for me. Sadly returned for refund.

Limited range & consumes iPhone battery

After suffering limitations of range with the tile mate for locating kids’ kit bags at school, decided to try these given they claim to have twice the range - alas the advertised range (400 ft on the pro) is again nowhere near achieved once you move indoors - iPhone failed to connect to it 30 feet away when there was a wall in between (same experience as mate). Also, the tile app uses major battery on my iPhone (20-40% per day) as it insists on having “Background App Refresh” and “Location always” enabled (and pesters you continuously if you disable either / both) - I understand that gives the best result for their community find feature (constantly scanning for & reporting on nearby tiles), but it doesn’t for the individual user. Not recommended alas.
