It didn't work out of the box. tried it with two computers and no output happened

I have dual monitors set up. I have a $7 hdmi to mini displayport on one and this cable on the other. The colors are very different and the screen and remarkably darker using this cable. They are exactly the same monitor, all the display settings are identical. Very disappointing...

Purchased this a week and a half ago. It has already stopped working. Cannot return it because I did not keep the packaging.
