We always do our holiday birds in this kind of roaster. This roaster is smaller (8 quart) than the big one my friends and I use to do a 22lb bird. This roaster goes up to a 14 lb bird (fresh) or they say 14-16 lb thawed frozen bird (not sure why you can do a slightly larger one if it's been frozen but the instructions say so.)I found it was really only large enough (using the rack included) for a large chicken. It did make a WONDERFUL roast chicken. The skin browned a bit, but you won't get crispy skin. More like grocery store rotisserie chicken and that's ok; I don't like those, they are too salty for me. This made a very similar bird but I can control the salt. The bird cooked almost twice as fast as you'd expect by weight; the close sides and top prevent heat loss as in a conventional oven; so check the internal temperature with an instant read thermometer because my bird was almost overcooked at 1 1/2 hours. You can use this as a slow cooker or even yogurt incubator but the dial has no "detentes" so it's hard to tell if you are spot-on a temperature setting. You can do a turkey breast, which we often roast as many people prefer just white mean, so this plus the big one work for the crowd we usually host. You can do roast beef, leg of lamb, meatloaf, and soups and stews as well--it's kind of like a big crockpot except it gets roast temperature and not just "low-and-slow."The results are very good and it leaves your oven open for casseroles, pies, breads or just not getting splashed up during the roasting process. A friend who was a very good cook and host years ago got us going on this kind of roaster and you will get a very reliably moist and savory result, as the roaster keeps in more of the moisture in the meat. I have not roasted a turkey any other way since. This 8 quart will roast a family sized dinner, If this is too small, the same maker has 18, 20, 22, 24 and 26 quart sizes for larger needs. These roasters are also very useful for church fellowship lunches and dinners, and potluck and cookouts. You can even do breads and lasagnes in these--basically its' a combo oven and slow cooker so anything pretty much you can do in an oven or slow cooker, you can do with the roaster.

I used this a few times before I did the review and I really like this table top oven. It doesn’t get your meat as crisp or as brown as the picture shows and it does tell you if you want that crispy to put in a regular oven for a few minutes. What it does do is make your meat soft and juicy. It doesn’t dry out your meat like the regular oven does. I also used it to bake a cake and that much to my surprise came out so moist.I haven’t used it for a turkey but I did bake a whole chicken in it. Just brush some oil on it before baking and it comes out nice. I also did a pot roast with potatoes. It was easy to clean up. I didn’t put it in the dishwasher I hand washed mine. I just put hot water in it with some dish soap and left it for fifteen minutes then washed it.This will be getting a lot of use in my house.

I love you can cook up to 8 quarts in it. Its like having a small oven. Its comes with everything to cook a turkey in when you have other things in your oven meaning it helps with space and time. The heat remains steady and cooks thoroughly. I love the black color and its easy to clean.

I ordered this to roast the frozen-to-oven small turkey breasts that we often buy for dinners. This roaster worked perfectly! This roaster is the perfect size for whole chickens too. The instructions noted that the roaster would cook faster than a standard oven, and that was true. I roasted a frozen-to-oven 3 pound Butterball turkey breast last night, following the temperature and cooking instructions on the turkey packaging. 2.5 - 3 hours at 325 degrees. I set the turkey on the rack within the roasting pan as the instructions for the roaster stated. I checked the turkey at the 1.25 hour mark, and the internal temp was 130 degrees. I basted the breast with an olive oil/seasoning mixture and checked it at the 2 hour mark and it was cooked through to 180 degrees. So it definitely cooked faster as the instructions stated. Really loved the cleanup on this too. The insert pan and rack cleaned up easily and quickly. Very pleased with this roaster!
