Does not work as expected with PS4

The headset connected very easily to the Xbox One. It looks nice. It feels a little warm around the ears. The audio drops out every 20-30 seconds for 1-3 seconds. Obviously this is very annoying, and unless I can fix it I will be sending them back. Apparently there is a firmware update that can fix the drop out issue, and other issues, however, I don't own a PC and the updater won't install on my Mac, so I can't easily update the headphones....yet another glaringly obvious problem with this product. I have reached out to LucidSound for support and we'll see what happens. But I shouldn't have to own a PC in order to update my headphones. They should work out of the box, and quite frankly, just create an updater that works on a Mac. Update: LucidSound have been good to deal with, but unfortunately not all problems have been addressed. A Mac update is coming, but no date was given. I managed to update the firmware through a PC at work, and the headphones now work perfectly on my Xbox One. If you want to use these headphones with an Xbox - then these are great. However, the headphones don't work on a PS4 as expected. Yes you can connect it to the controller using the 3.5mm jack. And yes you can hear some audio, but it doesn't work properly. The sound is distant and echoey and the sound appeared to have a blind spot around the main character. I tested them on God of War and Kratos could not be heard at all, and everything around him in the world (such as his son and other characters) were very hard to hear depending on where they were standing in relation to Kratos. I tried many different configurations for audio setup, both for the PS4 and within the games' audio settings. I also tried all settings possible on the headphones themselves. I could not get the sound to work as expected. I contacted LucidSound and the support person agreed that the headphones are designed as an Xbox headset first and foremost and may not always work as expected on other systems. So if you are buying this headset because of it's universal connectivity, be warned - it isn't perfect. I just wanted to clarify that I have given this product 4 stars because of the false description about compatibility with other systems. If this was sold as an Xbox-only product it would have 5 stars from me in terms of its quality. Let down by the firmware update slightly, but this is minor in this day and age really. If the product description is changed I will amend the stars, but while it blatantly says that it also works on PS4 I will leave the 4 stars intact.

This is a great headset and I do recommend it but I upgraded to the LS 50 X instead

I upgraded to these from the Sennheiser games ones, the microphone on those was obviously better but these were nice for the wireless feature and the mic monitoring was way louder almost to loud I don’t mind it but for many people they hate it you could hear everything around you outside almost like open ear headphones. The way you connect it is like you would with your Xbox controller by syncing it with the button on the headset and the button on the Xbox series X or whatever model you have. The only thing I didn’t like about that was that the sound quality was definitely interfered with every game I would get a sound glitch or lose sound for a split second. I ended up returning these and getting the LS50X at first I didn’t think they were worth the upgrade but they definitely are they connect via a USB plug in the back, the mic monitoring and sound is amazing honestly the sound is the same it has more EQ settings but it has no interference it’s crisp and clear. You can turn off the mic monitoring which I think you can on the other one as well but everything is said into the headset from the voice letting you know it beeps whenever you’re at the middle volume in at max or minimum. So you don’t have to take it off and look at the little dark to see where it’s at or adjust it in the middle of the game by the sound of the people talking in game chat. Also you can connect your phone so if you get a call you can hold the left ear bud and switch to Bluetooth and answer the phone call and talk but still hear your game faintly or switch back to game audio once you’re done with the phone call at first I didn’t like it but it’s come in handy quite a bit. Overall these are in a bad headset but I would recommend the upgraded version for the price difference of 50 bucks it’s worth it to get the LS 50 X even if you’re not using Bluetooth just for the quality of life upgrades.

Everything about the headset

Sound quality and headset speakers: The sound quality is really good you can really hear a lot around you, it can get really loud so you don’t miss anything, it can get so loud that you can even hear all of the sounds of an enemy such as footsteps or reload sounds if you are playing a game with guns. If it doesn’t sound like a surround sound make sure to activate windows sonic or Dolby And don’t forget to download a firmware update online. The headphone foam works pretty good my ears don’t ever get to hot and it is really comfortable. Headset range: The range of the headphones isn’t to bad, you can make your way around the room without it disconnecting unless you have a really big room then you may or may not be able to move to much around. I have a room that is generally bigger than a normal room and I can move around just fine. If you have a computer then the wireless adapter will need to be close and going through stuff isn’t good but it might be able to do so depending on how close the adapter is. Of course the adapter problem isn’t the headsets problem it’s on Microsoft’s part but I thought some of you might find that useful to know if you plan of using a computer later on, or if you will use it for both. Mic quality: The mic quality is ok, none of my friends complain about it. The red led on the mic is really useful so you will always know if you accidentally mute yourself. The mic monitoring is really quiet, if you like it on the louder side then you might not like it, however it still gets the job done. Battery: The battery lasts very long you don’t have to worry about it dying on you and the charging is fast so you can rely on it being fully charged in the morning. Speaker problems: One thing I really don’t like is the flimsy plastic parts that you use to turn the headphones right above the speakers themselves. Each of the plastic parts cracked after a couple months however the headset isn’t broken yet. Another thing is that as of April 10 there is a glitch that the headphones get really glitchy and everything is really distorted and you will need to reset the headphones. This will most likely be fixed in a later firmware update. The game chat and party chat slider isn’t good because if you turn it a tiny bit to much then all of the party or game chat will mute even if you would be able to hear it just fine. That’s all I have to say if there is any update that fixes the sound distortion issues then I will edit this review to let you all know. Sorry for the really long review but I tried to organize it as best as I could to help you all find what you are looking for.

Great sound and build quality

The materials the headband and ear pads are made of don't fade or crack as quickly as most headphones. I bought these used/like new and there's no sign of wear and tear, unlike my Turtlebeach Stealth 700 Gen 2, which have plastic on the headband that cracked and broke within the first 2 months. Another great quality is that the volume is much louder than the TB 700 Gen 1 and 2 (I had both). Overall these headphones are better than the aforementioned TB 700 Gen 2, except for one thing, they don't have Bluetooth. I'm guessing you would have to buy the LS50X to have BT connectivity, although I haven't verified that. But if you only plan on playing Xbox, then the lack of Bluetooth won't be a problem for you and you'll have an excellent set of gaming headphones with up to 15 hrs battery life, which is the same as the TB 700 Gen 2, but for a fraction of the price. I bought mine used for $56 and they came with every single part, including the instructions, and even the carrying case. They even came in the original box with the tiny rubber plug that fills the mic hole when you aren't using the boom mic. I would have thought that would be the first part the previous owner would have lost, so I was amazed at their overall condition. If the didn't have a little bit of hand grime on the volume knob I could easily mistake these for new. In case you're wondering, that grime very easily cleaned off with just a baby wipe. Now that I have these I don't even use my TB 700 gen 2 that I paid $170 for. I even gifted away my gen 1 TB's. I guess I'll save the gen 2's for backup.

Really good

I have tried astro a10, a40, a50, a bunch of turtle beaches, hyper x revolver, plus a few others. It has been a long journey but I think I have found the closest to perfect headset for me on the market under $200. This one just ticks most of the boxes. I wanted a headset with some bass since I play a lot of story driven single player games. To me this one has more bass than the expensive astros. It's way more comfortable than the hyper x. All the controls are on the headset itself so that's really nice. It's wireless. My only gripes (which might be my Xbox series x's fault) is the wireless distance is REALLY short. Like 15 ft away and it disconnects. If i go to the bathroom I must take off the headset or it will disconnect and sometimes it won't properly reconnect to my Xbox party without power cycling several times. So I just leave it on and set it down. Also the controls take some getting used to. I wear glasses and I feel they are comfortable enough with them on. The mic monitoring is a nice bonus. Battery life has been acceptable. I've played hours without charging and never once ran out of battery.

Big ol’ head

The bass is really good and the mic is clear. Everything is cool but playing for a while starts to make my head and ears hurt. If you got a big head like me be warned, it needs some breaking in.
