I am impressed by this meter, comparing this to an old analog meter I used to have. Unlike the analog meter, readouts are almost instantaneous and you can see the changes on the digital display as the probe enters the soil. Since there isn't any needle swinging back and forth, there is no jamming and things work as expected. Since the readouts are quick, you can also use this to determine whether the soil is dry only on the top or all the way through and determine better watering schedules as necessary. I also learned with this meter although the topsoil is fairly alkaline, going down a few inches is enough to get to a slightly acidic state which is what my plants prefer. This is nice to know so I do not apply too many amendments to the soil that can cause it to be too acidic. The only particular thing I noticed is that the display doesn't have a very good viewing angle, which makes it slightly hard to read under the bright sun if you are not facing the meter directly (which may require you to kneel) - not a biggie though since I don't plan to be using this on a daily basis.
