Awesome collection of rocks and minerals. It even comes with soft bags to store the rocks in. Tons of mini rocks, and a nice collection of medium sized rocks. Even comes with a rock identifying sheet that my sons been using to categorize the specimens. I liked the kit so much, i bought one for myself. Would be a great gift to any rock lover.

My kids are obsessed with rocks. It’s safe to say I have purchased so many different sets. This set however is my favorite. It comes with rocks not just little pieces of rocks. The plastic mat is perfect for identification. My kids love this. We will likely buy again to see what comes in that box. Thank you to the company who created this set. The memories I have today with my kids I will treasure forever!

I purchased this as an 8th birthday gift for my daughter who is obsessed with all things rocks and nature. She absolutely loved it. I rated this kit 5 stars, because for its intent and purpose that's exactly what this kit deserves. I was throughly impressed with the overall presentation of the set and the way the rocks were packaged separately in draw string pouches. There are two smaller pouches labeled polished rocks and natural rocks. One large pouch with assorted small polished stones. The fossils came in a secure little plastic box to protect them from damage. There was even an empty pouch labeled for your favorites. As well as a small magnifying glass and the large floor chart. Each of the two smaller pouches contain nearly one of each rock on the chart so you get a polished version and an natural version. We didn't have every rock on the chart, but I think only 1 or 2 weren't included. This kept my daughter busy for a couple of hours. When it was time to put them away she enjoyed going back through each and every one to figure out which were her favorites. (I think that was harder for her than sorting them on the chart.) This is a perfect entry level kit for kids with a genuine interest in rocks. Giving them access to more than what they can find digging in the back yard.

For what I spent this set is well worth the money. I had some difficulty identifying all of the stones in this set. I am an adult with a decent amount of rock collecting experience. I admit most of my experience with rocks is related to crystal healing yet it is well rounded. I am really glad that the fossils were in a separate container. So those were fairly easy to identify using the mat and although the ammonite is of a lower quality, it is larger than the rest. The small polished rocks are plentiful in the set that I received. Unfortunately few are as large as an inch. I got a lot of small polished pieces of lemon jade and what I think is small yellow calcite or fluorite. One may expect that with 250 rock pieces there would be more variety in the lot. In this set there were at least 30 different types-I think-of rocks and 10 mostly very small fossils. Most of what is listed on the mat is there in the set. I did not find one or two of the stones. That could be my error. I think this set would be a little difficult for younger children in general. An adult will need to help.
