I would have liked some of the rocks to be a little bigger, but overall happy with the purchase. My son should love this as a Christmas present. The identifying rocks sounds interesting.

This is a nice set, but I just wish the mat that comes with it had more pictures of the rocks and minerals to help identify more of them. You get a bunch of them in baggies, and half of them you have no idea what they are.

This is fantastic for young rock hounds! The only downside is that most of the samples are tiny Little Rock chips all thrown together in a big bag without labels. My niece is only 6 so she was impressed by the quantity but if she were older she’d probably be disappointed more by the tiny sample sizes. Still a great gift, just go in knowing the samples are tiny little rock chips and not like what’s shown on the box.

My 5 year old loves this. She’s interested in all kinds of rock’s colors and shapes. She is always adding to her collection

This is not a digging kit. These gems come already in bags.
