The straps require 3 AAA batteries, but the battery compartment is made very cheap. You have to be extra careful especially when closing it, it barely holds the batteries in

I bought these a couple of months ago to light up the dark counter corner where the coffee pot rests. They work great initially but dim very quickly. The light is on for only a fwew minutes if that per day and its already consumed 8 AAA batteries. I guess they'd be OK if you own a battery factory.
