This was a gift for my daughter. The description said it would automatically start up in English. It did not. It made her wonder if this was a legitimate item. After some time, she got it switched. But beware that you may hear Portuguese when you open the box and switch it on.

I’m not technology savvy at all so that’s my first mistake thinking I could set this up. It was difficult for me just to add contacts. It would be much better if I knew what I s doing but I will say, it’s a nice size for my counter, the lighting on it is very good & I believe it can do a lot more if I knew how to program it. If you’re familiar with Google products, I’m sure you’d love this.

As the other reviewer mentioned... Both the packaging and the unit came in Chinese. A bit weird since I bought it in the US.Just open your Google Home app and log into your account. Plug in the device and your app should see it. Then follow the steps in the app and it will update the language to use your app language.

When they say smart display, they mean just that. It's nothing more. You can't install apps, its YouTube has no controls just play n pause. It can see my Chromecast for casting but it can't see my jbl speaker with inbuilt Chromecast (my Android phone does connect to my speaker over WiFi).In this age, I would have expected a USB C charging port. For the size of the attached speaker, it's not a good quality speaker. It's probably just good enough to set alarms, as a google assistant anf controlling home devices. There's really nothing magical or impressive about it.

Thinking of sending it back. I have to reboot it often cause it switches to Chinese

I’m usually pretty good at fixing techy stuff but this is a pain. The instructions Google gives to change the language don’t work so now i have a hundred dollar Chinese piece of junk.

Used to use this constantly until they removed the cookbook. Now it seems to just needlessly waste space on my counter. If I could return it, I would.

I replaced my alarm clock with this. With the lights off, the nest hub enters night mode and is too dim to see, even at bedside. There is no way to inactivate this. As such, the device is useless as a bedside clock.

My son asked for this for Christmas. He was moving out and wanted the step-by-step cooking instructions. I use mine all the time for that. Unfortunately a recent update with Google Assistance the recipes, cookbook and step-by-step cooking directions are no longer a feature. The Alexa display has better features if you are looking for interactions and music.

As the title says, you buy the device, then they decide to stop supporting features, and you lose them. Not worth the investment. Just go with Alexa.
