Wifi stops working every few hours

Wifi stops working every few hours, and has to be unplugged and plugged back in. When this happens existing devices lose connection and new devices are not assigned an IP address when they connect. Got a different router and it works fine.

Read edit from 5/22/2023

This router replaced an older TP-Link AC-1750 that was working fine but just felt a little lacking. I used the manual setup and named this router the same as the old one and used the same passwords for the 5G and 2.4G bands so I wouldn't have to reconnect all my smart switches. The user interface is very intuitive, and I was able to have this replacement up and running in 15 minutes. The firmware check in the settings indicated I was up to date, but I found a newer version on the D-Link site and installed it manually with no issues.I have four smart switches, two phones, one iPad, a TV, a Chromecast, and three computers working from this router. Two of the computers are connected via CAT7 cables; everything else is wireless. Speeds are GREAT all over my less than 2000 square foot home. I haven't had to reboot the router since I upgraded the firmware. Granted, I've only had this router for a brief time, so if anything changes, I'll be sure to report back.I installed DD-WRT on the old router and am using it as a wireless bridge, so that's one more item that's working with this D-Link router that I forgot about.Overall, no problems at all with the AX5400 at this time, and I'm hopeful it remains that way.Edit 12/02/2022: I now have 6 smart switches and a Ring doorbell working from this router in addition to everything mentioned above. Also using a PC as a Plex server and have no issues casting from the desktop to a TV located approximately 25 feet away.Edit 5/22/2023: Well, the 5G part of this router just died, RIGHT out of warranty. Replacing it with a Tenda AXE5700, which is already MUCH faster on Wi-Fi than the D-Link ever was. I'm taking away my 5-star recommendation for this router and giving it a one. Buyer beware--great when it works, but how long will that be?

The worst router

This is the worst router I've ever owned. First one DOA straight out of the box (powered on no wifi, no connection, can't even access with physical line). Amazon send a replacement, and I was able to try this out and it's beyond horrible. The Dlink app is so buggy. The interface/firmware is extremely slow and non responsive and keep getting stuck which required a reboot. Wifi drop regularly.

OOB it never connected to my cable modem

I got this for a friend whose router needed to be replaced. I have owned D-Link routers before and was quite happy with them. My friend is not a technical person so I wanted to make sure what I got them was just make sure everything is plugged in and it should work. I don't want to spend time on the phone trying to help them troubleshoot issues. Before trying to plug it in to the modem I turned it on and plugged it in to my laptop so I could configure it. That part was reasonable easy but I found their GUI cumbersome and maybe even missing some things. I did not spend a lot of time playing around trying to find stuff I didnt really need to so I just left well enough alone. I shut it down and brought it to their router. I used the cable that came with the router to plug in to the modem. After turning everything on the router was not able to connect to the internet (not getting an IP). I did some troubleshooting and still couldn't get it to work. I even contacted D-Link support and this is what they suggested:Turn it off and on again.Set the DNS servers to Googles (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)Clone the MAC address from my laptopand set it to try and use IPv6None of those things worked so I put the old one back in place and am returning this POS. I am not happy at all with the product itself, the GUI/features and the support from D-Link. I will most likely get a ASUS or something else along those lines.Oh, and one of the things I tried to do was update the firmware. I went to their support page for the router and saw 2 firmware updates beyond where my router was. I downloaded them both and tried to update it using the latest one (was also marked as a hotfix but was about the same size as the other). The update failed, not giving any reason. I then tried the next one and that failed too, no explanation. It turns out they are not for that router, even though they were on the downloads page for that router. I did connect the new router to the old so I could let the router connect to the internet and try to update the firmware itself (yes, it was able to connect to the internet using the old router and I plugged it in to the Internet port on the d-link). When I tried to update the firmware that way it say it was using the latest version already.

Avoid D-Link

D-Link use to be a good go to for an inexpensive network alternative. Not any more! The device for some one who can barely figure out the power button would likely be a good one. However as soon as you wish to use the most basic features the new D-Link products are lacking.Do not buy this if you wish to use multiple routers!!!D-Link has made sure they can milk you for everything your worth, by forcing you to use crappy range extender's instead of converting a router. They have gone out of their way to do this!Buy anything else. I mean it, you'll be happy you did.

Worst router ever!!!

Bought during Prime Days at a price I thought was decent for a good model router. BUT, when I tried to connect to the internet, it never would never connect. However, when I plugged the old router back, it worked fine. I called D-Link customer and went through all troubleshooting options which was resolved as a bad router and to return it for another one in which I had to pay $25 shipping to return. I received replacement router today and the same issue.... usually when a router is plugged in, it is an easy step to connect. Not this one. So, I begin the return with Amazon who says I am beyond the return date and must pay a restocking fee. I am good with that as their customer service department offered me a voucher in return for the charge. Kudos to Amazon for refunding a terrible router. Thumbs down to D-Link for ruining their reputation with a bad product.

Horrible Router

We replaced a much older and cheaper router that worked great in our 1600 square foot ranch house without extenders, until it died. Thought I would upgrade. The description sounds wonderful, actual device - totally not. We set it up to have a 2G and 5G channel. My office PC is mega slow - I feel like I've gone back 20 years in time sitting and waiting for sites to open at all and then longer for photos to populate. I often find it connected to the 2G, but isn't any better when connected to the 5G. I have multiple tablets and although they will connect - the connection is so bad that if I want to play an online game, I have to connect to my phone's Hotspot! It isn't just my office. I can be sitting in the living room, right in front of the router and have the same connection issues and super slow response. SO FRUSTRATING!10/22 Tried to troubleshoot the issue. Recombined the 2G & 5G signals and suddenly everything worked great, but we have multiple devices in the house that require a dedicated 2G signal (they won't log into the combined signal), so I split them back out into 2 channels - yup, instantly back to disconnects and super slow service. Apparently all of their speed brags are based on the combined signal. Useless router for 2 dedicated channels. Gave up and bought a Netgear. No issues and I'm flying online again!

Don't buy this router its the worst ever

I have always been a big fan of D-link my whole life. I bought this router to replace and upgrade my home network to Wi-Fi 6. I bought this a while ago and sadly got sick and ended up in the hospital, so it was a month or more before I set it up. What a piece of crap this router is. Right out of the box, I first connected it to my modem and used the router to upgrade the firmware. I then set up my home network and at first things worked well (all of 5 minutes) then all the drops started. At first, I thought it was the PC then I noticed that my iPhone was dropped, and my wife told me her laptop lost connection. Things just got worse from there. I can't return it, and when I tried D-link support I was completely disappointed. I packed the routed up and put out my old d-link router we have been using three years now, and it works great. So much for Wi-Fi 6. I will place this thing in the trash come garbage day
