Easy way to add OK but not spectacular wireless to a desktop without native WiFi

This is a nice addition for a desktop with an extra USB port and without current wireless capability. But as a wireless device, it's nothing special. In particular, our 2012-model 13-inch MacBook Pro (with the DVD and without the Retina Display) and my 5-year old iPhone 5 still have better wireless reception than this product. Both Windows and OSX devices can install and run this product, but it only comes with instructions for Windows installation and Windows drivers on a mini-CD that only fits slot-loading optical media devices. OSX drivers and installation instructions need to be downloaded from the product's support site. Then again, why should this be surprising? It's been a long time since Apple released a computer without AirPort wireless built in.One nice and thoughtful touch is that they include a male-female USB extender in the package, which is especially useful given that the product itself would crowd out other USB ports without that cable.

Works...But Needed Tweaking You Can Avoid With Spending A Little More...

I have to admit this couldn't have come along at a better time...I have an older laptop that despite its age is still very serviceable...Except that some time ago the internet card on it just gave out and it was just too much to get it replaced. I opted for this solution thinking I had nothing to lose. The worse that could happen is I would still not have the internet...Well, I was able to connect, but it took a while...And, I had to enlist the help of my son that is a lot more computer savvy than I am...(But hates my old laptop). The problem was two fold...One being that you have to install the driver on this with the included disc that didn't go that smoothly, and second, even then we had a hard time locking onto the signal. It took tweaking on both fronts to get it installed, as well as locking into my signal...As far as holding it, I have had no problems with it as far as any drops in signal. My house is not that big and no where are you that far away from the router...That very well may have something to do with my good luck so far, but its definitely holding onto the signal with 5 bars on the scale...So far so good...In conclusion, as much as I can state that my experience with this has gotten my old reliable laptop up and running again, and that the price is most definitely very reasonable, I have to suggest that one opt for one of the higher price adapters. Especially if you don't have much going for you as to being that tech savvy. I have seen others adapters on here that still cost under $20 that either have the driver built in, or, just manage to plug and play on their own and can be a much better choice for many...A look at some of the reviews here show that I am not alone in having trouble with the driver download, and, having to either enlist the help of someone else as I did, or depend on calling customer service...As much as this is working fine now, spending a little more money assures that you get an adapter that works as easily as the wireless mouses with a similar type of adapter do...Unless you are really into these things, and or have very little money to spend, I would recommend upgrading for sure. Despite my success here...

For Stable Connection, Download Latest Driver from Website

The adapter is basically plug and play, initially I used the driver that came on the CD enclosed with the adapter. However, it kept on dropping the connection and I had to update the driver from the web. So I would recommend downloading the driver directly from the website rather than using the one that comes on the CD.

Faster, but no better Signal.

I received this product with the intent to replace the internal wifi card on an aging desktop computer. We have a detached garage with an office above it. One of our computers in the office has decent signal, while the other computer drops signal frequently. Oddly it is the "newer" of the two that gets poor reception. Although it is newer, it is still about 5-6 years old. I was hoping this would receive better wifi signal than the internal card in the newer computer. After installation, I tried the new wifi adapter and still received poor reception. I also tried the usb extension cable so that I could put the adapter on the desk and it did not help.I did test the download speed and there is a slight increase, but in the end, the signal still kept dropping. While this may be good for some applications, it did not work so well for me.

A cheap option that provides adequate network connection

I ordered this to connect a laptop to network and it was super easy to connect. I am not a techie so ease of use is a huge plus. It tends to drop connection waaaay more than my son would like but its a great cheap option as long as you know connection can be spotty. Re-installing seems to improve service for weeks.

Worked well

For the most part, this worked well. When I had it never my router, I didn't have an issue with the connection being dropped. But when I had it away, I kept losing connection and having poor signal strength. It was very easy to install, attaches to the USB port.

Simple for Emergencies Only..

I got this as a regular every day use device as it was on Sale at my local Micro Center store. The unit performed great for the first couple of days, then it started to drop connection every few hours to every few minutes. Sometimes it doesnt do it, but it was more noticeable when the unit went on standby from my PC going to sleep mode, to just a simple in between break from regular computer use. I am not sure, but i think it has to do with the USB connectivity as my PC is set to save power and turn off unused USB devices. Assuming that might be a possibility, the unit works fine and its super fast. However do note the more i use it, the more i see drops. When it works ok, it performs well and and it can hit 13.5 MB/s download speeds on a decent home line. Get it if you plan to use for emergencies or to do updates. I use it for laptops i do windows reinstall ons and it servers a good purpose for short term.
