I love this! It has helped me immensely at work!

This thing is totally awesome.Although it barely fits under my desk (and between a tower and an under-desk shelf) it still fits nonetheless! I am glad I measured the space I have under my desk before I ordered. I can pedal all day if it is placed in the right position! I have an inch of clearance on both sides of the bike.I could have gotten a cheaper one, but I wanted one that was very quiet. I read the reviews and heard about the magnetic stuff (I forget the terminology). And It is pretty dang quiet, except for when the straps brush against the tower or the under-desk shelf. This only happens when the bike has shifted away from the place I usually keep it. It shifts when I move my chair (which is connected to the bike via the included strap).I will suggest that if you have longish legs (like myself) that you get a back support pillow for behind your chair. It is sometimes straining on my neck and back (I have neck and back problems) when I am pedaling while also trying to work at my computer. If you have a back support pillow you are pushed forward a bit and don't have to strain to reach your keyboard and desk.I love the different tensions (1-8: low-high). You can most definitely feel the difference on the tensions. I suggest that if you have back, neck, knee, etc. problems. Most of the time during the day I idly pedal the bike on low tension (because of my neck and back problems). Also because I have anxiety, I wanted it to be easy to pedal without concentrating on pedaling. If I am distracted or frustrated I turn the tension up to help distract me.I really like the calorie/time/speed/distance calculator. I have it on top of my desk so that I can see my progress. If I ate a little too many calories I want to put the work in. So I can pedal faster or turn up the tension. I reset the calculator daily when I get to work (by pressing and holding the red button). I really like that I can get up from my desk throughout the day, and when I continue to pedal it will pick up where I left off (as far as the calculated amount of time, distance, calories, etc.)This bike really helps me big time. It keeps me more productive, and it has helped immensely with my anxiety, ADHD, leg bouncing, leg numbness (from sitting too long), tiredness (it keeps me active all day), and I burn extra calories all day. I feel a lot healthier after work, and sometimes I get up from my desk and my legs feel sore (in a good way... from working out). The only thing I don't like is the price, but it really is worth it overall. The product comes with a one year warranty. I opted for two (I paid for Amazon's) because I use this literally all day at work (I am often at my desk 7-8 hours a day). I tried to get my employer to reimburse this, and they wouldn't. (Your's might though! I would look into it.)

Top Notch Customer Service. VERY pleased

I just got this afew days ago and used it for the first time yesterday. Before I review the DeskCycle itseldf, I just want to give a nod and two thumbs up to their Customer Service. This is a big deal to me because I work in Customer Service myself and recognize great service when I see it.When the DeskCycle was delivered, I didn't get to open the box right away. I waited a day to put it together and when I finally did get around to the business of assembling it, I was frustrated to discover that the left pedal did not fit into the left pedal crank. I was incredibly annoyed after having spent the money, thinking I would either be forced to ship the product back or wait for them to send me the replacement part. I called their Customer Service, got through right away, and without hesitation or putting me through the wringer, they immediately offered the solution of having me take it to my local bike shop, have the shop rethread it, and they would pay for it over the phone. They seemed very keen on making sure that it was working properly and that I got my money's worth. When the bike shop technician fixed the problem, even though it was only an $8 fix, they paid for it over the phone and kept their promise no questions asked! Pretty remarkable Customer Service and that is one of the primary reasons I am giving it 5 stars. Having just used it now for one day, I can say this- it is indeed quiet as other reviewers noted. The pedals can be a little awkward to flip over with before you slide your feet into them, but once you master it, it's not that bad, The range of resistance options is really nice, and changing it up is fairly smooth and easy to do with one hand. On the advise of another reviewer, I did need to raise my desk up with a set of 2.75" bed risers so that my knees would not smack into the bottom of the keyboard tray, and once I did so, it was perfect! I bought this product because I sit all day at my desk- sometimes for upwards of 10 hours. I was starting to worry about potential health risks associated with such a a sedentary job, and was becoming alarmed that my ankles were puffy at the end of the day. If only I could just get some exercise. I researched several differnt options and for a number of reasons a stand-up desk, treadmill desk or cycling desk were not feasible solutions. Then I saw an article about the DeskCycle, read the Amazon reviews about it, and decided to give it a spin-pun intended. After just one day of using this device, I went to bed with non-puffy ankles, and non-achy legs. I even slept better. And that was after using it on mild resistance. So far, I highly recommend this. If anything changes, I will update this review. But I have a feeling that the DeskCycle and I will live happily ever after.

Easy to set up and use!

It didn't take long to get this put together and start using. I had to start using it at level 2 and do the workout for 30 minutes at a time. Works great and it is quiet. I leave my Oofos slides in the pedals since I run around the house barefoot. I sit in a living room chair so the unit does slide forward a little on my hardwood floor. Probably would be better to sit in a straight back chair to avoid any movement.

Just what I was looking for!

I love this machine! It is quiet and smooth as advertised. I have had it for about 3 weeks. Level 4 resistance was too much for me when I started (I could feel it pulling in my knees in unwanted ways) but I am already stronger. I have gone from level 2 to level 3 for background pedaling for long periods (no sweating)up to 3.5 hours so far throughout the day and level 4 for shorter bursts of up to 12 miles/day so far. Level 8 is still out of range, and I think that is a good thing. It gives me something to grow into.As with any pedal exercise (including biking), it's really important to set it up in such a way that the knees are not harmed. It may be more important with this type of equipment though, because longer "rides" are so much more common. Random story TLDR: On a real bike, I found out about this issue the hard way when I decided to start biking 12 miles to work. Of course I had to carry some things I would need throughout the day such as lunch and extra clothes. Since my bike had no rack, I carried everything in a bag attached to the center bar. My knees bowed out at a 45 degree angle. for the whole ride. It was fine!!! Just perfect!!! Until I got up. It hurt to walk for some time after that, except for going up the stairs. That was really comfortable. I tell this story to help out anyone who is new... you don't feel it until you get up. So pay attention the little cues and take care of your knees!Someone gave me a ball chair and I really wondered what I would do with it until I got this. The ball chair adds extra exercise. It also absorbs my movements better than other chairs that I tried with it. I would say the desk exerciser was not great with the loveseat or my cushy chair with skinny legs. Too much torque. It worked well with a folding chair. That was my favorite before the ball chair. I did not try it with any other rolling office chair.Pros:*I actually exercise! I can always fit it in.*smooth and quiet*the display keeps adding to previous totals until you manually reset, so it is easy to get an all day total*the website has a more accurate calorie counter*wide range of resistance levels... push it and sweat or be slightly active for hours*the display has an optional long cable so that it can be placed on your desk for easy viewingCons:*probably true of all pedal exercisers, but the tension knob is inconvenient to reach and change. Unlike on a bike or exercise bike, it is located on the floor, most likely, under your desk.Edit:I'm still using this with my ball chair, but I had to take a break for a while. If you decide to use it with a ball chair, be sure to stabilize your core, or it will affect your back. Now that I am focusing on that, it seems to be fine.

Still working great after more than 5 years

Bought this more than 5 years ago and it still works great. It makes a bit of noise now once in awhile but I could probably fix it with some machine lubricant, but it's not bad enough for me to do that yet.

Very, very happy I bought this rather than another cheap one.

To be honest, I've been eyeing this machine for a while, but put off by the "brand name" presentation, assuming that the price had a lot to do with the exclusivity of branding... which I resented in principle. I've been using desk bikes for a good 4-5 years now, being an office profession who got to be very heavy and struggled with maintaining energy levels and exercise motivation. I started out with much cheaper models, paying $15-30 for each one. I've had probably 6 over the course of the years, having never been able to justify the price of these higher end options, or not being able to afford it.This time, I decided to splurge. I'd already lost over 100lbs using these types of things, and after breaking my last cheap model, I thought it was about time to really invest in my office activity. I held my breath, hoping that I would not regret it... AND I LOVE IT!!!!This machine is approved emphatically by my bariatrics physiotherapist, for one thing. Having a ready-to-use activity plan at my toe-tip is a way to eliminate the excuses. I love being able to track my distances; it gives a challenge for me to beat :) I also really appreciate the fact that the makers of this cycle recognize that the default calorie burn is not a universal fit, and that they have made efforts to try and create a calculator so you can try to obtain more accurate numbers on their website if you so choose. This machine is very heavy, and much bigger than I anticipated, despite having the specs before it arrived. It only barely fits under my desk. I'm 6'1" and very long-legged, but am perfectly able to pedal this bike underneath my desk without hitting my knees. I pedal in a downward recumbent fashion, which is the habit I've built up over time. Following the recommended angling for your knees at full extension helps, and then pointing your toes, are two big parts of the trick. I've read a number of people griping about the "clacking" that happens, which I have noticed on a couple of occasions, but it seems to occur due to overheating when I'm pedaling at a pace of over 20mph for an extended period, which I will say probably means that you need to be slowing down or using a higher resistance. Me, I saw it as a reason to up my game, and raising my resistance slowed me down, toned me up, and *poof* goes the clacking. I'm pretty sure that the machine is not intended for intensive use for 4+ hours a day, as some of the people talking about it making noise have reported using it for...It's a great tool to have. Using a few minutes of pedals for a quick pick-me-up rather than having a soda, or using it to warm up when you get cold, are perfect short stints and reasons to use it. I like that the timer is automatically turned on and off by use, so it accumulates your activity time throughout the day. I'm so very happy with the purchase, more so than I expected.

Convenient way to get some exercise while at work

In my previous job, I was often working 12-14 hour days, 6-7 days a week. I bought this because there was no time to exercise, and even if there was, I was too exhausted. I work a desk job. Now I can put all those hours at my desk to good use and get some exercise. And if I'm frustrated (I work in IT, it happens), I can pedal it away for extra cardio.I didn't put this together myself, but I could have. I wish I'd realized that before spending $80 on assembly service. But ah well! Lesson learned. The only problem I've had with it is that sometimes the little bumpers on the corners will come off. I might put some double sided tape on them to see if that helps. It doesn't impact use or anything.

Definitely worth changing my desk around to make it work for me

I am a 5' 8" (leg/torso proportionate) 43 year old woman with a cubicle job in an office building. My desk is about 28" high so is a bit low. With the taller front arm my knees hit the underside of the desk so I switched it out for the shorter one. I face the corner of my cubicle area so I have an extra 12 inches or so than if I faced either of the partition walls directly, but I still had to rearrange things under my desk so the cycle fits and the pedals don't hit my computer tower and there's still room for all the cables and cords. The cycle is as far back as the corner allows. I changed my old falling apart desk chair out for a brand new one with sliders instead of rolling casters so I don't have to use the strap to keep from sliding back while using the cycle. I am quite close to my desk and sit straight up while cycling. I use the extra cord for the display and have it sitting next to one of my monitors on top of my desk. I use tension control setting 4 as 3 was too easy and 5 makes me sweat after a bit and out of breath when on the phone. A few of my co-workers know about the cycle and can't hear it and are surprised they can't hear it. Co-workers who don't know about it don't seem to notice that I am using it right in front of them while they talk to me. I cycle most of my day - from 7 AM to 3 PM - between meetings, getting up and down for print jobs, and bathroom breaks, keeping a pace of 11 to 13 MPH. I average from 30 miles to 50 miles, my best day being 62 miles when doing quarterly reporting. I cycle without any shoes on as my feet start sweating immediately with shoes on and then I get too hot overall and feel like I'm sloshing around in my shoes. I have a little desk fan that helps if I get hot. The desk fan is by far louder than the cycle. I cycle using the balls of my feet. I kept the straps on the pedals and though I find the straps unnecessary they aren't in the way.Between this gentle cycling 5 days a week, body weight exercising 3 times a week at home (You Are Your Own Gym by Mark Lauren) and eating better and more healthful dinners (Blue Apron, Plated), I definitely feel less jiggly and less like my bits are hanging out for all to see. My clothes fit better. I sleep much better at night. I am less grumpy. I don't get sleepy after lunch anymore. And, this may be considered cheating, but I tape my fitbit to my knee when cycling and my steps have skyrocketed.

compact, whisper quiet, smooth, really perfect in every way

It helps to hook a desk chair wheel around one of the back legs of the cycler so you don’t roll away. I bought this bc i had a broken foot and could not hike or walk for 8 weeks and was bored and needed to burn some energy and anxiety to be able to sleep and feel normal. I have a full size treadmill and weight bench and didn’t have room for a full size bike, i was skeptical when i found this, it’s FANTASTIC! if you are on the fence, Try it!! Easy to use under desk, but also in front of tv. or anywhere. the different resistance levels let you choose a leisurely ride or a muscle punishing one. It helps close activity rings at night easily and I immediately started sleeping better again. My foot is almost heeled but i’m sure I will still use it as I have found it targets different muscles and I enjoy that different burn:)
