Okay, Stupid me! But still, a mobile app to install my Network Modem?

This is all my original review. But after working forward I finally figured out (following instructions) and all is well. BUT that all said, I really don't like having to download an Android application to install my HOME network modem. I all seemed like a way to get my personal information, email etc ... so that they can spam me or sell it or whatever. I suppose that I might have been able to just activate the modem through the Xfinity app, but I was thinking that it would have to be set to work in bridge mode like my old one Arris. So do I like the modem? Sure it is working fine and BTW is only bridge mode (my other mistake), or at least with a router and firewall it is. I only have a 400Mbps connection but it is getting 465+Mbps around the country using speedtest.com.The mobile app is unnecessary crap software that shouldn't be in the install process. I bought a modem not a crap mobile app.Original review: Don't buy if you want anything at all other than a connection. I have an older 300Mbps model, which has bridge mode. I figured, several years later that would now be a common configuration option WRONG. This modem is so basic it scares me. I hope to get it working with my Opnsense router. Will update if I do.Should have guessed by the pricing. I should have checked before purchasing too.

Decent Modem with Some Limitations

The ARRIS SURFboard SB6190 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem is a serviceable choice for those seeking a basic modem with gigabit capabilities. While it fulfills its primary function of providing internet connectivity, there are certain aspects that could use improvement.Starting on a positive note, the modem's gigabit capabilities offer a boost in internet speeds, making it suitable for households with multiple devices and high bandwidth demands. The setup process is relatively straightforward, and the modem's compatibility with various cable providers adds to its convenience. However, there are notable limitations that can impact the overall experience. The SB6190 modem has faced compatibility issues with some internet service providers and networks, leading to connectivity problems and intermittent outages. This can be frustrating for users who rely on a consistent and reliable internet connection.Another concern is the modem's heating issue. Reports of the modem becoming excessively hot during use have raised questions about its long-term durability and performance. This heating concern might also contribute to the modem's occasional drop-offs in connectivity. While the modem claims to support up to 32 downstream and 8 upstream channels, some users have reported that the actual performance does not consistently match these specifications. This discrepancy can affect the modem's ability to handle heavy usage and multiple devices simultaneously. The SB6190's design and aesthetics are functional but lack any standout features. It might not blend seamlessly into all environments, which could be a consideration for users who prioritize a sleek appearance.

Call your ISP

I suppose this modem will work fine. The last one I had was the same model and it lasted 8 years. The problem with this one is the activation. You have to download the surfboard central app which has a rating of 1 star. That’s 2 stars too many in my opinion. The app locks up and nothing happens. So you call the customer service number and talk to someone in a hut in Bangladesh with an accent and an attitude. He informs you that rather than going through all the BS of dealing with the app just call Xfinity and they will take care of it. They did. I’d rate the modem about a 4. I’d rate Arris customer service a -3. If you buy this thing just hook it up, plug it in and call your ISP. You may be on hold for awhile but at least you won’t spend most of your Saturday swearing at your phone.

Not Cox supported at 1Gbps. Only get 686Mbps

So based on Amazon advertising that this modem will get 1gbps with Cox Communications I bought it. After 3 hours on the phone with Cox we determined that is it not that fast. You can only get 686mbps top speed. I am sending it back to Amazon. Cox customers if your speed plan is faster than 686mbps don't buy this model.

Not compatible with Comcast

I bought this because it was on Comcast's list of compatible modems, and was also listed here as compatible. However, after installing, I was unable to activate it. Comcast support was unable to find the MAC address. Arris support was unable to help. I returned it and bought the exact same model from my local BestBuy, and it worked perfectly.

Untrustworthy

I am glad I got this for around half off. This modem asks that you install an app, I did not know this when buying the device as it is not something the box or the images provided bring attention to. This app will ask for unnecessary permissions, like access to images and video files, and all the app really does is tell you to go to your ISP's website to activate your device. If it is not obvious, this is completely irrelevant data. It has been a few years since I've updated our home network, I really hope this is not the new standard.

Don't fix everything if you need a phone plug

I don't like the fact that I have to return it. It have everything except a place for a house jack. I needed my home phone attached in order for it to be completed and send back spectrum box.
